freeze plug plate /bypass

Can someone tell me where to purchase the best fix for the rear freeze plug while the engine is still on the floor. Somewhere I read about a machined plug with an oring seal and tapped for a bypass hose .Can anyone hook me up with a link ?

you could put a plate over it and call it done, or you could call Enterprise, I think it was

I have not look at this closely, but on gas motors we used to TAP the freeze plug hole with a pipe tap and screw in a plug. Would that work for this issue?

Blocking off the rear freeze plug with a plate doesn't prevent any of the other plugs from blowing out - just the first one to usually do so.

I'm not a fan of the tapped plugs either, since their flow rate is necessarily small, and therefore the coolant bypass ratio is insufficient for a Cummins, IMO.

We've had a BOE Kit on the '05 for a year now with excellent results - no blowouts!

Since it has a nominal rating of ~130 GPM at the CTD's rated RPM when both stages are activated, the relief valves have plenty of excess capacity in comparison to a fixed-orifice plug fitting.

a 1/2" bypass hole is plenty big for bypass flow.
I use a EEP block off plate and then I used my own plumbing and set-up to control it.

Yes, that's why I use two of them - routed independently through relief valves so coolant bypasses when necessary, rather than full-time.

What kind of problems? I was told the bypass is standard on heavier applications.

And Im having it done next week. Block off plate with 5/8 hose to tee into heater core return line.
thanks, doug

with it bypassed full time you may have trouble warming the truck up to operating temp..that's all I meant by trouble...I would only open it if your romping or racing...other then that I would keep it closed..02

yeah, you have to call them.. the kit was like $150 IIRC. make sure you get the kit for your year, i dont see a sig. the 04.5 and up, you need the plat that is longer and has 3 bolt holes. i was sent the wrong one by a different company, and a wrong one thew enterprise before i finally got the one i needed. if your truck is older than 04.5 let me know, i just remembered i still have a kit for the older ones minus the adjustable valve. but i might be able to save you some $$. ill check to see what all i have left and give you a price if you are interested

I have a picture of a really nice freeze plug plate from somewhere but I can't remember where or who makes this plate.

I'm in the market for this part or a very good quality freeze plug plate. Does anyone have a picture of the EEP plate?

Thanks, Joe..

the pic I posted above IS a EEP plate....I suggest a bypass...a blocking plate will only move the blow out to the next plug..most likely the plug by the turbo....you need to bypass the pressure

Thanks Mark, sorry I misunderstood your previous post.

I agree a bypass would be best, but my truck is quite mild and I would just like to bolt on a plate (or 2!) for now.

I really like the plate in my pic. I hope someone can let me know who makes it and hopefully sells it.

Perhaps a new product idea for you!

...Joe
