I agree a bypass would be best, but my truck is quite mild and I would just like to bolt on a plate (or 2!) for now.

I really like the plate in my pic. I hope someone can let me know who makes it and hopefully sells it.

Perhaps a new product idea for you!

IIRC a guy on TDR was the one making those style plates???

I went with the Enterprise setup too. It comes with an adjustable pressure regulator, so coolant doesn't bypass all the time. It's easy to tell if it is bypassing...even in summer, the truck will never warm up running empty. It will briefly crack the thermostat, get a slug of cold water, and close again.

Are the bypass plates used for guys running high boost pressures or is it just a good mod to do to prevent problems. Sorry I'm not really familiar with these.

I have only a block off plate...and have not had a problem at 4k and 87 psi boost at 1550 degrees.

BUT...

I might do something to free up hp...and relieving uneeded water pressure would do that!

Lowering the water pressure will only lower the boiling point of water, it will not free up hp.

Whats the purpose of doing this by pass? Does something go wrong with the stock plug?

CTDs have very high coolant system pressure, and blockoff plates for the freeze plugs only allow the pressure to leak past the next weakest point in the water jacket - i.e. the "soft" plugs in the cylinder head.

The ejection pressure on the engine block freeze plugs exceeds 300 lbs.

So is this a way to vent pressure easy? How do you tell if something goes wrong? Will coolant pour out or leak slowly?

The less restriction the water pump vanes see...the less hp it takes to drive them...so yes...a bypass relieves water pump drive pressures...which does free up hp.

It was never designed to spin over 3k.
