Just like the title, is the service manual correct at 4pints atf +4?? I know it's pathetic to not take the service manual at it's word, but you know how it is.

When it starts to drain out the top hole, you know you have enough.

Sorry, I couldn't resist. I honestly don't know the "exact" amount. I just always have plenty of ATF on hand to do the job and more. Whatever I don't use goes in the next time.

So many people say to just fill the TC until fluid starts coming out, but if you use 2 qts like the service manual states it does not start coming out and is below the plug line.

I would have to assume I am fine with the 2 qts I put in.....and should not go buy a 3rd qt just so I can fill it all the way to the plug hole?

When I changed mine it ended up taking almost 2.5 quarts (5 pints). I'd recommend having an extra on hand just in case.

The question is....is it supposed to take 2.5qts, or is the 4 pints (2 qts) what should be filled?

It should be filled until it comes out of the filler hole with the pickup on level ground.
