First diesel buy, mod questions.

I will try to be short and sweet. Right now I have a 1500 Silverado that I am going to trade in for a diesel, its been a good truck but I want something with more power and fun. I have my eye on this 03 2500 with 89k on it. It looks like its in good shape, minor dings and scratches but nothing big. After doing some searching, people have different insights on how the 48re holds up with mods. It has a 4inch on it and I want to put some 35's and some performance mods; chips, exhaust, intake, and injectors. Do you guys think I should beef up the tranny before the chip and stuff, or I should be good for a while?

They are asking for 16.7 for it, is that a good deal?

That sounds kinda high for an '03 with "dings and scratches."

If I ever bought an auto and planned on modding it I'd put a built tranny in first just to get it out of the way.. so yes I'd do tranny mods first.

your stock tranny for the most part will not hold up well w/mods, do the tranny. . .are you sure it is a 48re and not a 47re

^x2, are you sure is a 48 and not a 47? Which hp rating is it, 235, 250 or 305? It says that its been lifted since the pics but the pics show it to be atleast leveled, that means its already had big tires. Its also been de-badged and all the side moldings taken off, that tells me its been modded most likely. Yes tranny upgrades need to be adressed, at least TC and VB.

thanks guys. I don't think I will be going for it. I will keep my eyes out for something else.

The guy at the dealer was in a hurry to sell it and that never seems like a good sign. He was adamant that it was the 48re, but to be honest I don't believe him lol. Oh well, back to the drawing board.

How much do you think this one is worth? And if it is significantly cheeper, how do I make the dealer take my deal!

I'd buy one direct in lieu of through a dealer...but that's just me, i dont trust dealers (userd car salesman) and dont want to pay dealer overhead....look on the classified's here, auto trader or what not....why via a dealer?

Just no time to sell my truck and used to just trade my car in for another one. I probably should put the time in and sell my truck privately and then get one privately

Judging by Vin with the 8th digit being a C, I believe it is is an HO which means it is a 48RE.

For whats its worth, I bought my 03 one year ago exactly for 22.5k. It had 57k, was Laramie with everything (nav, heated leather, etc) and is in excellent shape. Also had Kore suspension, Fox remote reservoir shocks, 285 BFG ATs, Amp steps and Rollback tonneau.

I think its a good deal! Looks nice!

price is rite??

recently picked up a 2007 5.9 4x4 slt w/14k orig on it with "no" dings etc for $22.5K With the prices at the dealers these days, you may want to shop around or make a better offer (like maybe minus the trans $$). love my new/1st dodge!!

I agree with whats stated above. I dont trust car dealers they are always very proud of what they have for sale and they say its been serviced well taken care off etc. I would only believe that with maintenance records. I would rather buy from a person anyday of the week most of the time they will be more honest than somebody at the dealer trying to make money off of you
