Smile Finally installed my ARP head studs...

Yesterday along with my injectors I finally did the stud installation on ole' Blackout.

The procedure was pretty straight forward. I followed the tech manuals recommendation as far as the sequence of torque goes.
I also went up in stages with torque on the injectors in 10lb increments until I reach 60lbs per stud.

I then went up to 75 ft lbs and then 86ft lbs then finally 96ft lbs. I used the ARP moly lube which is pretty slick.

I overchecked them at 96ft lbs several times and they were all holding the torque well.

The back rear drivers side bolt touches the "rocker box" and that had to be clearanced with a grinder to fit.

They sure do feel better than spongy OEM bolts!!

Next week I will probably do a retorque again.

So how much boost do you plan on running now.

Jesse,
If I get a "different" charger for this years pulling season then I would say somewhere in the 55psi area maybe 60.
But If I continue to run the SPS66 then probably stay at the 50psi mark.

Either way I will probably be running more fuel so I need the added security.

I really don't think the studs are needed on a 3rd gen that just spikes boost every once in a while.
But with the Sledpulling I hit 50psi and hold it for around 20 seconds or so

How was the dyno day?

What other turbo are you thinking of trying, I think the SP66 ran very strong on your truck and now with the added fuel should be even better.

If I can afford it I might try a Silver Bullet from Industrial Injection.
Right now they are waiting on parts so its still up in the air.

Either way I'll have something from Industrial on truck for this year.

Yeah, I think the truck runs good with a 66 but I think it would run a hair better with like a 68mm wheel up front.
Hopefully I can get a stage 2 FloorIt Pump by the time the first pull gets here.

That would be sweet I cant wait until pulling season gets started. As you can see I in my sig I traded my 2wd 5spd for another 6spd 4x4 and I may try putting the 55 on that I had on my 98 but I may need to get a smaller exhuast housing to have a little quicker spool.

Cool Man.
I didn't notice until you pointed it out.

I think the big exhaust housing would be fine on a 3rd gen.

I thought a HTTSledpuller 66 could hold 65 or 70 psi and still stay under 1500 deg. ks

I am sure they can take spikes of 65 or 70 as well as the II products.
But do you want to hold that much for boost for 20 seconds? I dont think so.
I am sure you could but it will wear out a charger quickly and I dont want to be the one who has one go BANG at 70 psi

Stay under 1500* @ 65 psi? Your dreaming (you need a set of compounds for that) Thats not real world for a single.
I hit about 1650-1700 all the way down the track while sled pulling at about 50 lbs of boost. I used to max out the gauge with the little B104 all the way down the track.

Alot of people on the boards fudge their EGT numbers.
You wont get that from me.

I use more TQ on the studs! 96 is only 75% yield.

Thanks...
I think I'll go with the 122 ftlb route.

Is ARP the only manufacture for studs? Just curious as I have never seen any other brand doing head studs and bolt kits.
