Filtration Solutions FS-2500 By-Pass filter

Is anyone using the Filtration Solutions FS-2500 By-Pass filter for their Dodge Cummins. I would like to know if it really will keep your oil its original honey color as advertised and if it does how often do you change the filters.

I have the Oilguard half as much and nice piece of hardware . Oilguard gets changed every 10,000 miles ........ I am going to swap the Fleetguard at 5000 when I send in a sample . Amazes me to see guys changing their oil at 3000 miles the oil industry has planted that seed firmly . I have a leased Mercedes 320 CDI with that SWEET lil 3.2 oil burner and it calls for 13,000 mile oil changes and uses Mobil 1 Synthetic from the factory . I am using Cummins blend Valvoline Prem Blue Synth and it is the same color as when I put it in 3000 miles ago ............so I would say the by -pass is working .

I have the FS-2500 and really like it. It doesnt keep the oil that honey colored in a Cummins (dont ask me why) I have a few friends with cummins and thiers as well as mine is darker colored but still tests good as new. However friends of mine with powerstrokes and duramax engines stay looking like brand new after 20K and they put out as much black smoke as I do. I still believe in the product and have not had it on all that long yet. Maybe a few filter changes will clear that up. It has only been on about 8K.

Hi, guys. I have 5K on Valvoline Premium Blue Extreme synthetic with a Stratapore filter right now, and I just looked critically at the dipstick. Yes, it's still honey-colered. There's not a bit of sootiness to it. I changed the truck over to this at 41K at the recommendation of Power South in Jacksonville, FL.

The oil is also EXACTLY where it has been since I change it.

I used to work for a company that ran 6.0 PSDs. We checked the fluids every morning, and they all routinely sooted up the oil within 100 miles of an oil change. So did the old Ford 7.3s. The PSDs were FUN. If one suddenly started doing something unusual, the first thing to try was to turn it off and start it again. Amazingly, that often worked. These were AMBULANCES, and we had to REBOOT them, sometimes several times a day.

I talked to the owner of Filtration solutions today. he says they are getting in an extreme soot filter on monday for testing. It is supposed to remove alot of the soot in the oil (for us guys who make extreme soot!) He says that he will give me afilter to try out. I went to thier HQ and showed him what kind of smoke i am making. He told me I could really only expect so much because my truck bellows out the smoke. I will probably get one in the next couple weeks. For all who are interested i will keep you posted.

elandon1201,

Before changing motor oils, you may want to read the thread, in this forum entitled "Poll: Your Favorite synthetic Motor Oil?"

Read what some users of Valvoline had to say about their experiences with it.

I'm not trying to start an "oil war", just passing on what others have experienced.

ABC4YEW,

Mobil 1, T&/SUV used to be rated for diesel service but, there has been a change. The T&/SUV, now, is rated for gasoline engines.

There is a new name attached with the oil that is rated for diesels. I believe it is something like "Turbo Diesel".

You want to look for the 5X40, CI-4 or CI-4+, on the bottle.

on page 38 of the July issue "Diesel Power" has a thing in the "PowerBits" section about the new Mobil 1 Diesel oil. it says

NEW DIESEL OIL
ExxonMobil has introduced diesel-specific motor oil: Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel 5W-40. The oil is designed for turbocharged diesel engines, even tow rigs. It's said to help reduce engine scuffing and bore polishing. You'll be able to find it at pretty much any automotive retailer nationwide.
