F.A.S.S. install on 2005 ?
F.A.S.S. install on 2005 ?
I installed the fass over the last weekend, rig seems to like it.(pump only using stock filters)
The tail end all went good with the pump install and tank mods, but under the hood I have a few Questions.
The stock fuel lines do I just leave hanging and open?
What do I do with the stock pump?(seems like it would be a good idea to run them together as back up(maybe I am paranoid)
When I pulled the relay for the pump the check engine light came on and wont go out.
fuse 39 they said to install power too, this is not the cig. fuse. as stated. So I installed to the cig. fuse and it looks like poop, plus when I want to listen to some tunes only(on acc) the pump is running. Is there a fix?
any help or input would be great
thanks

Can't help you but I'm waiting for others with responses. Per FASS instructions, I was going to go the same route pulling the pump relay with my custom pump setup, but not if the check eng light remains on...
I left the old lines in place (for backup purposes) I just plugged both ends so road debris stays out. I removed the old LP and carry it with me as spare in case I get stranded out in the no mans land.
I am getting ready to do an upgrade on my '05, but am confused with the '05s. I was under the impression that the stock lift pump is in the tank. If so, do you guys take it out, or not? If you are pulling fuses, are you doing it to shut off the stock lift pump? If so, the fass can pull fuel through it no problem?
It was suggested to me by a local shop to just get a booster pump inline (like a fass I guess). But I want reliabilty and adaquate fuel supply... so what I'm saying is, if I leave the stock intank pump and it takes a crap, will the booster still pull fuel through it and make the truck run?
And lastly, is it difficult to remove the stock intank LP?
Thanks guys.

Igor, I'm going to be doing the Walbro pump mod on my 05' very soon...hopefully. I'm going to leave the stock pump in the tank. I'm probably going to remove the pump relay or pump fuse. Then I'm going to add a new pickup in the tank. I've got to drop the tank to do the vent mod anyhow, so I'm gonna kill two birds w/ one stone. Then I'll splice in the Walbro on the frame and plug the line from the stock lift pump. This way, if the Walbro ever craps out, all I have to do is intall the relay and reconnect the fuel line and I'm back on the road. Redundancy is cool
. I thought about leaving the in tank pump running into the new Walbro, but too many issues came up... One of which is if the intank pump dies, I don't think it'd be too good of an idea to have the Walbro trying to suck fuel thru it. Don't think it'd work at all. Hope this helps...

Yes, it helps, it sure sounds like a good idea. That way, you got a backup.... nothing wrong with a backup, AT ALL. Now I just gotta get myself a fuel presure gauge before I do anything, and then dig in myself.

Stock Pump Power
Why cant I just unplug the power to the stock pump and put it right to the FASS.
Its the intank stocker and the fass is only a couple feet away, seems like this would be the best bet, then you have the relay and dont need to run a seperate power and groung all the way up front.
Than if any problems happen with the FASS, the relay, fuse and pump will be in the stock locations, just need to plug the lines in and plug the power in.
Anybody think this sounds OK.
thanks

I'm not sure how the stock pump is controlled. I know it's controlled by the computer, but I think I'd have issues with the way it turns on and off the pump at various times. I'd want my pump to remain on as long as my key is on the "ON" position.
Is your check engine light still on with the relay removed???

yes
Yes, the relay is removed and the check engine light is ON.
I was thinking I could just put a pic of the kids over the check engine light, outa sight, outa mind.(pulled that from the good ol days with the chevett, back then it was a pic of the old lady)
