i was wondering the benifits to the stock exhaust on the Dodges after 03 with the 4" stock exhaust?
is it really benifit to change the whole exhaust, or just the muffler?
the way i see it, that looks like the most restrictive part in the system.
i am asking this because i really don't want to change out my exhaust system until it is no good, but i would like to let the engine breather a little better.i could straight pipe it, but not too sure if thats the route to go. although if thats what will give me better flow, with more noise(turbo whine, etc)thats the way i will go until i need to replace the whole system.
looking for opinions and facts please.

I straight piped the 4 inch on my truck for awhile but the rasp and drone was too much for me so I installed a 24 inch long glass pack and it sounds great. I can hear the turbo sing, too. My buddy has an 04 with the 3.5 inch exhaust and he straight piped his, but I suppose because of the smaller diameter, its not nearly as loud or as objectionable. In fact, it sounds quite good. I'd say give it a shot, you'll only be out a piece of pipe and some clamps if you don't like it.
pullin hard,
We have been selling a lot of our replacement performance mufflers and cat test pipes for the 2004.5 and up trucks. But rememebr the 2003 and 2004 only have a 4.0 inch tail pipe, the rest of the system is 3.5 and not nearly as well bent as the 2004.5 pipes are. We also have a cat back exhaust system and you can add the cat test pipe to it as well. The replacement muffler has welded hangers and bolts directly (no mods) into place on the truck, it is built from T-409 stainless so it is the same material as the stock exhuast system. If you mix materials you get an electrolysis (sp) problem especially in the winter and it sets up corrosion real fast. The cost is less than a system and gets you almost the same benefits as your stock pipes are already 4 inch etc.
Give us a call is you have any questions etc.
