Exhaust on Tuesday, Megacab-resonator at rear?

Hello again. My muffler came in. I have another thread going on that (Donaldson 51"). I read that there was a resonator at the end of the exhaust for the megacabs. So I looked, and sure enough, there it was. What should I have the muffler guy do with it?

Thanx.

Do yourself a favor, keep the resonator!

It won't hurt exhaust flow and it helps stop the dreaded droan.

Keep it, try it, if you're not happy with it then go back and remove it later. I think it helps with the drone, DC put it on there for a reason.

i heard that the cats are mroe restrictive than the stock mufflerssssis this true?
because as soon as i took my muff off and left the cat on, everyone told me i should have done the opposite by leaving the muff on and taking off the cat.

I just had my muffler took out and had a pipe put in place. Left the resonator in place and it sounds just as I had hoped! Just a little more sound with deeper tone. No droan at all. I also put an Airaid stage II intake on at the same time. Got the turbo sound I was looking for plus a little more power. So far I'm real happy with both mods. We used band clamps on the new pipe in case I need to put the muffler back in place. Thanks Mark

Yeah, that's what I did - trashed the cat and left the stock muffler. When I pulled out onto the road for the first time there was traffic coming up pretty fast so I grabbed 4th and put my foot in it. You would NOT believe the black cloud that blew out of the tailpipe! It completely covered both lanes, shoulders and the barrow pit on each side. The next stop and go was maybe half that and so on until now even the black smudge on the rear quarter-panel is just a memory. Hard to believe the cat backed up that much soot in under 10k miles. When you get yours off take a look in each end and you'll be amazed. If I were you at this point I'd bite the bullet and have the cat removed and a good aftermarket muffler put on, which is one of my next 'gotta-have-its'.

Thanx for sharing the info guys. I will take care of the kitty and put in the Donaldson on. I will make up my mind for the resonator on Tuesday when I am at the exhaust shop.

Interesting note. My father has an 8.1 liter Yukon with a Whipplecharger (9lbs of boost with custom programming). He wanted it as quiet as possible. He had his muffler guy drill out the 2 bigger of the 4 cats. Then he had a big RV-type muffler put on (with baffles). He then had the exhaust pressure tested (bung installed right after the headers). The muffler guy said there was close to no exhaust pressure (they kept it on the rack & tested at diff. RPM's). It all comes out the stock tailpipe. His exhaust guy did say he could get more power (30-40 hp) with a Dual 3" with an x-pipe, but it won't be near as quiet.

That may not apply to us Diesel guys, but it is interesting.

This is exactly what I have been wanting to know on a Megacab... Is yours an auto or manual? And just to be clear you left the cat on and the resonator but just straight piped the muffler?

If it is as good as it sounds I will have to do this ASAP>

Subspd,
Mines an 06 auto megacab. Yep, just the muffler, left the cat and resonator. It sounds real nice. I didn't want to mess with warranty issues as far as the cat and I figured they put the resonator there for a good reason and removing the muffler would not help the situation. Thanks Mark
