new exhaust for 600

I installed the Banks monster exhaust early on and kept the cat. I later removed the cat and that seemed to make the largest difference. To be honest with you guys after looking closely at the factory 4" exhaust on the 2004.5 ,, it is a waste of money to replace all of your exhaust. My suggestion is to remove the cat and replace factory muffler with a high flow muffler. Must cheaper.

I put the MBRP stainless muffler on mine & left the other stock 4" in place. I was told of clearance issues with the duals on 2wd. So, on went the muffler & I'm very happy with it along with a 5" tip. Converter is still on because of uncertainty about annual emissions testing on the truck, my previous trucks needed it in AZ becasue of commercial tags. My guess is this one will too.

Exhaust

Nothing sounds better than a straight piped Cummins going by but not on my truck. I installed the MBRP 409 stainless and cat eleminator pipe on mine. It fits as well as the stock exhaust and looks great. It has the Cummins sound that we all love but at a mellow tone. I wouldn't waste time on the stock intake tube. Get a afe intake kit with the progard 7 filter and torque tube. Your engine will run cooler and you will like the sound.

I have 2004.5 Laramie 4x4 and the cat fell off and I replaced the stock muffler with straight flow resonator and muffler. I can tell that the truck is more responsive off the line, lag is not noticable. Much cheaper than getting whole set up since it already comes with 4" piping.

Then I made my own intake just like AFE with torque tube. Saved me couple hundred dollars and it sounds even better! I can hear the turbo spooling up when I hit it hard. Even my friend can hear it while driving beside me.

Now I am waiting for the Bully Dog outlook monitor and downloader

Personally, if I could do it all over again I would leave the factory tailpipe in place and buy a 4" Banks downpipe/elbow and put 5' of straight 4" pipe in the space between and then have the two joints welded so there's no leaks or coming apart. That would be MUCH cheaper than the route I opted to take and would probably sound the same.

Exhaust options

The Banks Monster exhaust cat back system is nice if you are keeping the cat and quiet as well. You could also install an entire Banks system with the down pipe that eliminates the cast elbow on the turbo. Another very popular option is the Aeroturbine placed right behind the cat and straight pipe to meet the factory tail pipe. The Aeroturbine has a really nice sound to it and can also help lower EGTs.

Since you have an 04.5, the cheapest thing to do it either eliminate the stock muffler, or just replace it with an aftermarket muffler. If you want to replace the whole system, a kit from Mark Craig @ DPPI is high on my list since I have one. I've had it on my truck for almost 20k miles now, and I still love the way it sounds.
