Exhaust Systems

Okay I am new to the forum and new to diesels.
So my question is what exhaust system do you have and what are the pros and cons?

Thanks in advance for the replies.

Gutted kitty, lost silencer ring, and straight piped with OEM resonator left in place. Haven't seen any cons yet.

FYI,

your truck already has a SS 4" exhaust, so all you need to do is delete the muffler or replace it, (depends on how loud your want your exhaust).

If your not looking for a louder exhaust, don't gut the cat. The only benifit you'll get by doing so is sound. The getting rid of the cat doesn't give you any performance unless you have a lot of miles on the truck and the the cat is clogged.

Since you pull a travel trailer you'll probably want to just replace the factory muffler with a lighter flow through type. If you delete it and the cat you'll probably get awful drone.

Good luck.

I changed mine out for a turbo-back system...just right -not too loud.

Not sure about a resonator- never saw one on my stock truck, unless it's built into the muff or tailpipe.

I run 5" because I wanted to try and lower egts. and its pointless to me to buy a whole new kit that is 4" exhaust. to do it over again I would just modify the stock system like said above. its 4" and pretty decent for stock pipe. any straight pipe is gonna have drone. thats what I dont care for on mine. the drone gets old if you dont feel good. but the noise is great to make stupid ppl realize they cant drive. I think the 5" also looks good on a truck.

The resonator's only came on megacab's...

Like stated above unless you plan on going big with mod's you all ready have a 4" system just ditch the kat and get a flow through muffler!! Save some coin for somehthing else!!

I've got the MBRP replacement muffler and the cat "test" pipe (still testing). I love the way mine sounds, very deep. If I had to do it over again I'd go the same route. I'm going to reinstall the cat though. The dealer gave me some grief over my "testing".

exhaust

Just had my 06 muffler replaced - magnaflow has a direct OEM muffler replacement (not a short muffler, but about 40") and you keep your 4" OEM pipe. Added a magnaflow 5" stainless tip. Sounds a little, not much, deeper and louder, especially at speed or under-load. Kat still in place. But, it has given me 1-2 mpg (on the OEM computer) improvement. Tested on the same road over a 300 mile drive with and without new muffler. The only other modification is an AFE 2 air intake.
I'm happy.

Unless you like cussing, fiddle f'n around, and still ending up with a system that is out of whack, stay away from the mbrp duals.

Nuff said.

had mbrp duals drone was intollerable had to have like 3 mufflers in line to get rid of it, now have magnaflo 5" turbo back stainless with tip and sounds and feels like it has more throttle response and power, sounds cool too.

I installed mbrp single exhaust on my dads 01 he had. the kit fit up great for me. it was 4" so it was an improvement on his truck. he didnt want it loud at all and it wasnt in the cab at all just like stock. im not trying to defend mbrp just stating that kit fit up good. now all the exhaust ive put on my trucks-off brand stuff fits up like poop. If I had it to do over again, I would get stainless 5" with a muffler. maybe the new silverline kit. I have never seen it on a truck in person though
