Good call Bill - especially on a 2wd. I enjoyed watching them wrestle with it. Also I didn't want to have to deal with disposing of the stock system.

Do they really sound that much better?
Has it improved your MPG?
Can you tell a difference in the power ?
Is it a waist of $$ if I don't add a bunch of upgrades, edge ect. ?

How are these systems in the cab. Do you get any residual noise in your ears after long trips. When I drove the BIG trucks I used to use earplugs, otherwise the turbo would still be ringing in my ears while I was trying to go to sleep. I don't like to offend others but really don't want to hear it myself. When I drive under load, there is hardly anybody out anyway. Let us know.

I installed the DPP exhaust and Pro-Guard 7 two weeks ago and my only complaint is I waited far too long to get these items on my truck. Mark was great to deal with and I will deal with them again when I have the urge to "upgrade" other items. The sound is not much different in the cab but roll down the passenger side windows and stomp on it, WOW, it sounds great! I have the auto and 4.10's so cruising at 75mph is right in the sweet spot. It's not loud in the cab but you can definately tell it's not stock. If loud is not your thing, you might want to re-consider. I can tell little difference is milage, mostly attributed to my right foot I think. It does spool up faster and seems to breathe much better so when I get tired of hearing the wonderful sounds and drive normally, I expect mpg to go up a bit. Even if it doesn't, it was well worth it! I'm trying to piece mine together in preperation for a box in a few months. This was just two pieces to get taken care of first.

mxboy, finally another unbiased opinion! Glad you also admitted that you found the sweet spot/drone rpm, and sorry to hear its so low at just 75mph. Mine is about 83-84 with the 3.73's, or 2300-2400rpm. I also love the sound, but it's not for everyone.

ZZsdad - dont bother buying the exhaust, its totally not for you from what you've written. You will hear more noise in the cab at all rpms and speed. Some of us just can't stop stepping on it because we love the sound. It IS noisy though. No, it's not a 5.0 mustang with straight exhaust, but it's loud. As for hurting your ears, I would have to answer that no, on long trips the exhaust wont make your ears ring. I however happen to have rather exceptional hearing, and I must say the turbo noise from my truck at hwy speeds does hurt my ears.(I just got back 5 mins ago from a 4 hour drive from Miami). I was considering earplugs myself. Although I love the turbo whine when accelerating, I find it so obnoxious the truck consistently whines at highway speeds. I'm gonna have to get some plugs.

PS - take with a grain of salt all my noise evaluations - because my truck is completely lined with dynamat xtreme sound deadner. Therefore on a stock truck, expect relatively slightly louder results/interpretation

Yes they really sound that much better. It sounds throaty like a v8 with flowmasters or duals.

My mpg has improved about 1.5mpg with the scotty3 and dppi combination. Thats comparing 75mph on flat land hitting reset on the mpg computer. Overall you wont save enough fuel to pay for the exhaust sytem. It's not an upgrade you do for cost effectiveness, if thats your question...The mpg gain if at all, is a side benefit.

Engine definitely breathes and runs a bit better with the combo of scotty3 and exhaust. More responsive and quicker spooling. I'm sure the EGTS are a bit lower but I dont have gauges.

Waste of money? Thats completely up to you and can only be answered with opinions. If you're looking from a strictly cost effectiveness standpoint, yes it's a waste. If you're looking from a 'cool factor' standpoint, it's a must have. If you tow heavy and need some EGT reduction or have some power upgrades like you listed, then the system becomes more of a necessity, as your question suggests..

zz, from my viewpoint, I don't think you'll be disappointed in Marks exhaust. Its not that loud. I had delayed my purchase when reading here on how LOUD it was. I had no need to upset the neighbors, or upgrade the sound system if I couldn't hear it, etc.... The good news about waiting was that Mark had a whale of a deal that knocked me off top dead center to buy one. I have no regrets.

Its a straight 6, and certainly doesn't sound like any gasser V8 (sorry Lightman) with Flowmasters, or duals to me - I have both. And nothing like a mouse or mountain motor V8's in a fast boat with multiple "duals". I'd call it a nice deep straight6 rumble. V8's sound nothing like an I6 (CTD; Ford 300; Honda CBX). I still hear my truck stereo fine. If you put your foot deep into it, you can hear it, but its nothing like the 'stang or boat. My Mustang has the DRONE, Ram doesn't. I think 4.10's help in that regard. This is with an empty truck, no load - no trailer.

I can let you know in a month or so when I pull the 8600 lb load back home from its winter hibernation.

Mileage on one tank of "city" driving doesn't show much difference.

Waste of money? I don't think so; then again, I've blown a few hundred taking friends out to dinner/drinks on a boat ride - I didn't think that was wasting money either.... YMMV

bulabula - respectfully -blah blah blah. Your hearing is going It IS loud when you step on it, and if anyone wants to hear it, I'll send them a mpeg video with sound of the system. "CERTAINLY" doesn't sound like a v8 with flowmasters?Thats an awfully bold statement, when it sure sounds VERY similar to my tahoe, with a 350 v8 and flowmasters...thats odd Several others have commented after riding in my truck that it doesn't even sound like a diesel with the new exhaust. PM me, listen to the sound file , and judge for yourself. IMO it's not for everyone.

As far as drone, it's all relative. I dont think some folks on this forum quite understand what drone is. To me, drone is a constant humming, bellowing, or any type of tone that is present at a rpm. This system certainly drones from about 80-85mph on my truck. The stock system did not. Previously I could only really hear engine noise when accelerating, very minimal exhaust noise. Now all I hear is exhaust over the engine. The noise increase is substantial. Anyone who says it's not is in denial.

The noise wasn't much different from empty when I pulled a 6000lb TT last weekend. Yes, it was louder for longer amounts of time on acceleration, because there was a load, however I didn't really notice any louder highway cruising etc.

I strive for objectiveness and not product/choice loyalty in my posts. I'm not going to sing total praises for something just because I have and like it. Mark and anyone else working there will tell you the system is louder than stock. Sure 'not much' louder is a fine marketing term. Judge for yourself.

For the record, I'd get the DPPI system AGAIN on my truck in a heartbeat. I love how it sounds. I'm also a young guy who likes rumbly engines. My grandfather rode in my truck and said it was too noisy, the low tones messed with his hearing aids! It was funny in the miami airport garage tho yesterday, I stepped on it a bit and set off a few car alarms

Finally got my system on yesterday... local shop... they had some questions during the install since the OEM downpipe has a flat flange and the DPP has a 45 degree flange.. but after conferring with Mark, they installed it and there is NO problem... LOVE the sound and some seat of the pants difference in performance with no other mods...(may only be wishful thinking or the sound makes it sound more "performance")

Since I have a long wheel base, my "drone" seems to come on different that what most have talked about... I get a minor (very minor) drone around 60mph that goes away by 65... at 70-75, I hear nothing different that what I heard with the stock system... yes, when I ease on the go-pedal at any speed, I notice the sound.. does it bother me.. h*ll no.. I ride a Harley with Vance and Hines Longshots on it and that level of noise doesn't bother me..

I am very satisfied with the system.. from workmanship to sound... only time will tell if fuel milage goes up with only this mod.. (although I have noticed a .5 mpg diff in the 1st 80 miles)..

Bill, have you tried 80-85? I get the most sound around 2250-2400 rpm. Dunno if your long wheelbase changes that with the extra length, but we have the same trans and ratio.

I too love the sound and drive with the windows down all the time to listen to it. I agree during normal crusing it's not much louder than stock. Just roars when you stomp on it

Figured I'd throw my 2cents into this as well. I got the 4" with dual tips and couldn't be hapier with my purchase. The truck sounds pretty roudy when you get on it, and I have had a ton of complements from fellow "truck guys". I have gotten alot of the "is that thing a diesel?" since putting on the exhaust. Without looking at the tags they say it sounds like a big block with flowmasters from the back, but has the knocking and turbo whistle from the front. On the freeway I find it is nice. Lets you know it's there, but sitting on the cruise it is not obnoxious. Love the sound of it downtown too, it sounds awesome bouncing between the buildings under load. I also got the Scotty3 so it may be a little quieter w/o the intake as well. oh yah, and on the mileage I can't say. I'm in the list of "can't keep my right foot up with this exhaust" guys

Viper, I hope you like it loud and rumbly! At certain throttle positions and rpms its nearly deafening. I love it, lol.
