Question Exhaust Modification Question...

Hey guys!
Its been a while since Ive posted, but Im glad to be back!
I have a question for you. I just bought a Genos muffler delete for my 07 Mega 5.9 and had it put on. The sound is better, but not as good as I have heard some of these other Dodges sound. Do I need to take anything else out to make it sound better? I see that the truck has a huge catylic converter and a small resonator still in line. I want that deep throaty tone, so do I need to take both of those out, or will it sound like crap with completely open exhaust? Also, will it hurt the motor not having any backpressure?
Any help will be much appreciated! Thanks- Jon

Just run straight 5 inch and be done with it, that'll be loud enough for ya.

Personally I think my truck sounds terrible with the MEK. Raspy and loud, but surprisingly no drone. It's not a deep and rich sound. To get a deep tone, you need the sound waves to expand. The way to do that is with a muffler with a big body. I just received a Donaldson MO90535 from Ryder Fleet Products yesterday. It's a 5" ID muffler with a 9" diameter body. The design is much like an Aeroturbine, which splits the flow and recombines the flow, canceling out certain sound waves. The good part of this muffler is that the tightest point of restriction is 4", so you still have better flow capability than a 4" straight pipe.

I plan to install it using 5" to 4" reducers. Should sound sweet! If you want it to be really deep, run 5" from the muffler back. In my truck I don't think it will fit unless I move the muffler forward enough to connect just after the turn on the downpipe...
