EGT while towing

I have a 2004.5 2500 & will be towing a 12000 lbs. trailer. The truck is not heavily modified, but it does have Sheid 50 HP injectors. The cp3 & turbo is stock (and original at 230K miles). Just cruising around w/oi a trailer, I can easily get to 1000 degrees (while going up a hill, accelerating, etc.), but I do like to keep the revs low. The temp does not stay there long (as soon as I back out of the throttle it comes down) so I have not been overly concerned. When I hook up the trailer, it will be easy to keep the temps high, so, how high is OK? I have heard that I can stay at 1000 degrees as long as I have 20 psi of boost (in other words, keep the revs up). Is this correct? What about higher temps - how high and at what boost? I will be pulling some pretty good grades and want to know how hard I can push it vs. how much will I have to slow down. I do not want to punish my engine!

There are many of us that would love to have that problem.

You can run 1000* all day long. 1350* for very brief periods without worry.

It is that egt you are worried about, not the boost. It is better to keep the revs up where you need to. Never lug a diesel.

Is your pyro sensor mounted pre or post turbo?

Then everything I have read agrees with Soulezoo above. Mine is post turbo (for the time being). I'm having trouble getting a definitive limit for a post turbo EGT.

your egts are just fine. you can up to around 2000* and be fine, sled pullers do it all the time. now i wouldnt hit 2000* but for a brief moment, but if you are hitting 1400* for like 30 seconds (maybe longer) it will be just fine. like said, your boost doesnt matter. cylinder 6 is the hottest cylinder, so if your probe is not reading that cylinder, your temps will be a little hotter then whats displayed.

No tuning?
Keep in mind, as you advance injection with a tuner,... egts need to come down as there is more heat 'in cylinder' then stock. And probe is post cylinder. My Smarty Touch's egt alarm goes off at 1200* I want to be safe!
