EGT probe won't snug up

Hey guys I have a quick question for you. I just installed my new thermocouple and I cannot get the Ferrell to tighten down on the probe.

is there some sort of trick I'm missing?

To tighten the ferrule on the thermocouple probe, make sure you follow these steps:

Slide the ferrule and nut: Put the nut on the probe first, then the ferrule. The ferrule should be positioned correctly, usually with the wider part facing the nut.

Hand tighten first: Screw the nut onto the fitting by hand until you feel resistance.

Use wrenches: Hold the fitting with one wrench and use another wrench to tighten the nut. Tighten it until the ferrule compresses onto the probe.

Don’t overtighten: It should be snug, but don’t overtighten as that could damage the ferrule or the probe.

If it still won’t tighten, check that the ferrule and probe are clean and not damaged.

So this has become a thread where AI tells you how to work with your hands?
Brilliant!

1. Ensure the ferrule is correctly oriented (tapered side toward the fitting).
2. Fully seat the thermocouple probe into the fitting.
3. Tighten the nut gradually by hand, then use a wrench for a quarter-turn.
4. Check for any dirt or debris on the threads or ferrule.
5. If needed, try a new ferrule to ensure a proper seal.

Another first time poster with a totally useless and annoying contribution. Seems like AI never sleeps on this site and is growing.

Make sure the ferrule is seated properly on the probe. When you tighten the fitting, it should crush slightly to grip the probe.

Here are a few things to try:

Check the ferrule direction – Make sure it is facing the right way. Some ferrules have a small and large end.
Push the probe in fully – The probe should be all the way in before tightening.
Tighten in small steps – Turn the nut a little at a time while holding the probe in place. It should start to grip.
Try a different ferrule – If it still won’t hold, the ferrule may be defective or too big for the probe.
If nothing works, you might need a new ferrule or fitting.

Make sure the probe and the fitting are clean. Dirt or oil can stop it from tightening.

The ferrule needs to sit in the right spot on the probe. Push the probe in all the way, then pull it back just a little before tightening.

Use two wrenches—one to hold the fitting, the other to turn the nut. Tighten it slowly until you feel it grab.

If it still won’t snug up, the ferrule might be the wrong size or damaged. You may need a new one that fits better.

Some setups need the ferrule to be crimped once to seal. After that, it tightens easier next time.
