Dynoed...not there yet

I dynoed this morning in Bangor Maine after getting my low pressure fueling up to snuff...50psi at idle 30psi wot. Now there is no shortage of fuel up to 8/7 on the TST but now my air needs work...My exhaust flange gaskets and wastegate gaskets are crap and have been leaking quite a bit but now they are leaking alot and the underhood looks like a coal mine after a fire...I figure I'm loosing about 20psi of drive boost and the resulting boost....And all that soot plugged the paper Bhaf pretty much solid.... The best we could do was 37psi and the smoke wouldn't clear....on TST3/1 and 5/3 which gave a best first run of 460hp / 785 tq....At the track we were blowing the pipe off at 75psi....I'm disappointed but I knew I was loosing some on all 4 leaks but it is pouring out now.....I will have 3 ply gaskets on everything and a brand new AFE inverted cone on for Dynoing Friday or Monday. Seat of pants on the dyno was that it was in limp mode ....it was pathetic compared to the track....oh well it can only get better....Fueling is awesome....just need a little wet cold air to match it. ks

Youll get it! Keep pushing.

Big numbers are not always easy. And one that is modified as heavily as yours will always be tougher to dial in.

FYI, I dont gaskets on turbo flanges at all. I mill everything flat and forgo the gaskets altogether. Never had a leak one. Turbo to manifold or spacers, wastegate flanges, etc. No gaskets.

I use the MLS gaskets from Cummins on the cylinder head to the manifold. That would be the only place.

whew, dynoed 2000km ago...been on the run to get everything done.....Finally got the truck into the shop for the ATS stand alone computer valve body install, the water meth install, the muffler stax install, the twins AFE intake, Five gauges installed leading to Twins adjustment....

Sorry to be so long but I have very limited access to the internet....twice a day for a few minutes so I'm just gonna dump the info and wait for your feedback and input.

After 12 1/4 miles, 10 dyno runs and 3000km of "testing" the turbos and flanges and adapters were in a need for serious tightening... Smoke was pouring out of every fitting.....I had wrapped the hot pipes and turbos with header tape so I was unable to tighten everything up to snuff.....Everything we fabbed was machined perfectly flat....the turbo flange on the s300 was not machined and is not flat....a nice copper gasket is on and all fittings are cranked with new stiffer lock washers and they do not leak.....the air filter is plugged with a thick layer of soot.....I'm surprised I got 460hp with the leaks as bad as they were and the filter plugged.

Tomorrow the 6"inlet 9x7x9 inverted cone AFE will be on along with the water system with 4 nozzles in various spots. Heat is not a problem with my setup so there will be lots of methanol in the water for cooling and air enriching purposes.

The tranny is working great and the valve body will be programmed by laptop to match the spooling of the twins.

I have 3 boost gauges going on the dash....one on a copper line to the manifold, one on the outlet of the s400 and one on the manifold before the final water stage.
I have a fuel gauge on the FASS for setting performance fueling levels...and the tripple pilar will have the fuel pressure, tranny temp, and post turbos pyro.
The TST will be providing the pre turbo EGTs.

The ATS computer will be data logging the tranny temps, and other inputs.

This truck is becoming a serious test mule.....Smarty will be on next week as soon as the DTR gets them.

The diesel fuel systems dyno is a nice setup....but as warned....is tight for a dually. Unfortunately the chassis strapping as usual needs an additional set of pull down straps closer to the wheel to keep the tires from slipping...I lowered the air pressure to 40/50 but in 10 runs I lost almost 2/32 of an inch in tire and the truck moved over enough on the rollers to hit the stupid piece of metal sticking up beside the rollers and wore a 3/16 patch off the tread of the passenger side dual.... No biggy

Don, yep it will take a while to get this truck to max power... I have a spare set of stock injectors on my spare engine that need something to be done with them....If you can come up with something to try that will utilize my 230% fuel flow volume Smarty and TST set up that rocks or need a test truck just let me know. On 9x9 the TST had no problem oversupplying the engine to the point of almost quenching with my serious lack of air pressure. I just wish someone could offer a source for a pressure sensor that could read to 38k or so. ks

Yeah the tie down system at diesel fuel systems leaves alot to be desired. What are your plans for the motor that you just picked up?

Bone Stock... ...I'm sending the head to Texas for a Diet.... the injectors are still to be determined....I have the best that II can offer so its good to have some competing stix for the days when you want a little less or more fuel spray. Mostly it will be for spare parts...I'm looking for a short box regular cab or a long box regular cab Dually....over winter so that the test mule can go back to work. A buddy bought a lightly fire burned 2001 truck today for $280. The tires were new the engine was unhurt...the dash was ruined and the seats were damaged....other than that....mint. It was his dads and the insurance company sold it to the highest bidder....it's getting p-pumped. ks
