Dynatrac free spin conversion kit
When in 4x4 I can assure you all that the driveshafts are going at the same speed
I say hopefully, because that's the effect that causes no damage. It's not uncommon to bust U-joints, differentials, or transfer cases by doing this on hard pavement. You will see in your owner's manual that 4x4 operation is only to be done in low-traction situations. Part-time 4WD systems are NOT designed to be operated in 4WD on high-traction surfaces, not even for a little bit. If you're going straight, that's fine - but the minute you turn, anything more than say a lane shift, you're binding up your driveline, and something's gotta give. If the tires have too much grip, something else will give instead.
I had to put a new rear end in a family member's Suburban, because it was driven in 4WD on-road. She made a U-turn, felt the truck kicking and bucking, and then something "didn't sound right". Yeah... differentials usually sound funny when a tooth gets sheared off the ring gear.
Just talked to Dyntrac again today about hub conversion kit update for the duallys... They said they machined the center out of the dually wheel adapter and there was not enough materail left to be safe.
I had my truck in there shop about 4 months ago so they could use my truck as a test truck for the duallys and thats when they found out it wouldnt fit the duallys because of the wheel adapter..
And to top it off my right front wheel bearing went out today

Just did the DynaTrac conversion couple of weeks ago. Install was pretty easy if you just take your time. The truck rides smoother, no vibration. Making sharp turns seems smoother also, not sure about mpg yet. I have an 06 2500 reg cab 4x4 with 2500 miles and getting about 18mpg from overhead.I did'nt do it for the mpg factor I did it for reliability as I plan on keeping this truck for good. The full time front end sucks and won't drive a 4x4 without lockouts.
I ordered mine on the 31st and hope to have it in soon. I am at 40k miles and my driver's side hub assembly is totally shot.
I can definitely see where you will gain a couple MPG from this upgrade, although that was not my reason either. If you want to see how much resistance there is on the front end, jack up the front of the truck and spin one of the tires by hand, watch how long it spins.
This is a great upgrade, definitely worth the piece of mind and extra durability.

When I was at Dynatrac to get the kit I asumed they did there homework and made sure the kit would fit the duallys but I was wrong. They could have went down the street to a Dodge dealer and pulled I hub cap off in 30 seconds and then tried to stick the hub into the dually wheel adapter from the new kit and realized it was'nt going to work
I know this will work because thats what I did when I was at Dynatrac and It took me about a minute to figure out it wouldnt work. I was not a happy Person But life goes on..
Dan, I figured you would have to remove the dually wheel adapters and then you would be ok. I have'nt looked at the hub to adapter set up I just figured the adapters unbolted and then you could remove the hub as normal. What's up with that, ks
I installed the Dynatrac front end kit, with a Power loc diff. I did it to free up the wheels and drivetrain, eliminating the parasitic drag that occurs otherwise. I also had some REAL problems with the vacuum system that is stock. I would not engauge, yet the light would go on. Since I thought I was in 4WD, the truck started to bounce, hard, in the soft sand. This caused the fan to hit the shroud, bending it into the radiator, shredding it. TWICE! All of this in the middle of nowhere in Mexico. The last repair took almost two days in the field, thank God for Marine Tex. I guess I am old school, but I like to know, positively, that I am in 4WD, and the Warn hubs do that. Getting my feet wet or muddy to lock them in is not a issue. I also like the fact that the axles are solid, not the mickey mouse 2 piece system that is stock. I never felt comfortable with the little collar that slides to engauge the system to be really strong enough to handle the full fury of a CTD. I know that I have not heard any horror stories about them failing, but the security, piece of mind, of having the solid axles in the middle of Mexico is worth the cost. A axle brace is also a good addition.
DJ is right, jack it up and spin it and you'll find that the wheel does not spin. I noticed that the truck does roll easier when in neutral or the clutch engaged than before. You will realize also when you get your kit how heavy duty DynaTracs parts are.To me its the best mod you can do to a new ram,old style function and reliability on a new truck? sick....
Has anybody looked into swapping a coil-sprung D60 front end out of the earlier Heavy Duty Fords (pre super duty). I know Ford used them in the late 70's early 80's (I think, lol) but I know they used them at some point. I am alos interested in swapping out this crappy system. I grenaded the front end in my old 98' 1/2 ton. Busted both ball joints, and the u-joint on the driver side. What a stupid design. Plus I already run a Powr-Lok front end and want to alleviate some of that stress.
Just curious if anyone else had thought about the Ford D60 swap?
