Your probably thinking of "windecker machine". The DSS is made in Canada, so if you are in the US it would be easiest to find an American supplier. You can buy it direct, but it is a pain to get things across the border.

Here is the manufacturer website:

OR

You could get XLR8R to build you one.

Ive been thinking of making my own as well, but where do you get the bearing, and do you need a longer shaft?

The bearing is quite standard. Most bearing supply stores will have them. I haven't figured out a way just yet to lengthen the steering shaft. May have to weld something up that will screw onto the shaft and take it to a machinist to get the extension trued up.

I had a quick look at the shaft. Looks like it is probably 7/8 fine thread, but I am not sure. I will measure and post back.

It took a while, but I finally confirmed the steering shaft nut is 7/8 fine thread.

I had a DSS on my old 01.5 and it was one of the best mods I did to that truck. It made the steering feel like it does on my 05, nice and tight. I may add one to the 05 someday.

It is sweet...should of made my own too. Bearing is easy to source.

The price was so right when I did it...the time was more valuable doing something else.

The pitman arm nut is replaced witrh a new nut that has an extended shaft off the bottom. The shaft OD is the flange bearing' ID.

The flange bearing mounts to a plate/tube steel support that mounts in a sandwich with the sway bar mounts at the frame. Easy stuff...except the nut shaft piece...but it would be cake for a machinist.
