Drop in Mufflers for '04.5's

Does anyone know if any exhaust system manufacturer will sell a drop in high flow muffler for the 2004.5 600's

a friend of my wants to keep the stock 4 in. pipe, just replace the muffler. he tried to talk me into selling him mine and just adding some flex pipe to make it fit, but i'd kinda like to keep it incase John Q. Law tells me my truck is too loud.

DPP in nashville, TN has a stainless highflow straight thru muffler with an adaptor pipe for sale. I called them and spoke with them over the phone, I believe he told me it was around 180 bucks for the muffler and pipe section. He said it just replaces the stock muffler on the exhaust system and retains the rest of the stock exhaust.

Go to www.hogperformance.com Ihave a standard 4 inch muffler from them and put it in the stock spot. $150.00 sounds real good. Tell them what you have and what you want and they will take care of you. They have 3 different mufflers.

i just finished straight piping my truck and believe it or not it is not all that loud. before you spend all of that money on a aftermarket muffler, take a look at this thread:

Straight Pipe Thread

i had straight piped my 03 and it was a "lot" louder than this one. in the video i have the camera set up really close to the exhaust pipe so it seems louder than it really is.

One of the best sounding and performing things you can do to the 04.5-05 trucks is install an Aeroturbine on the cat outlet and use an offset 4" pipe to connect to the stock 4" tail pipe. These sound great, will reduce EGTs and will not drone. We put together kits to do this with a hanger, clamps and your choice of stadard or resonator Aeroturbines.

03 vs. 04.5+

Ok I'm confused here and this thread seems to have people on it that will know the answer. I have an 03 H.O. and I was under the assumption that the there was no difference in the exhaust systems between the 03's and 04.5's except for the addition of a catalytic converter. Am I right on this one? Or was there some other change in the plumbing that I'm unaware of? And if there isn't any changes besides the CAT does the CAT really make that much of a difference in sound?

A little confused ,

Mike

Rocco,

Deezulsmoke is right we have a T-409 stainless steel exact replacement performance muffler that will bolt right on to your 2004.5+ Dodge. It has the welded hangers that snap right into the factory locations, it comes with the "S" shaped tube to align correctly with the factory tubing etc etc. Being made out of 409 stainless matches it to the factory material so you won't get an electrolysis problem with different types of metals either. The price is much better than Deezulsmoke mentioned though, no offense Deezul, just wanted folks to know. We also have cat test pipes in 409 for those that go offroad and race!! Call us if yuo have any questions etc.

Bluedeviltorque,

The 2003-04 systems are different, they use 3.5 pipes up to the muffler, and a 4.0 from there on out. The 2004.5 systems are 4.0 pipes all the way, they aren't mandrel bent, but are 4.0 inches. The replacement performance muffler we have is designed only for the 2004.5's, however the 2003-04's will work with our systems if you use a 3.5 to 4.0 adaptor and cut about 3 inches off of the factory system just before the factory muffler to allow the adaptor room to fit.

Mark, what's a cat test pipe and it's pro's/con's?
Also to take advantage of increased flow of aftermarket muffler I'd need to replace stock intake, right? Thanks. (Still learning ....)

Thanks for the info Mark. Its the nasty time of year here in CT so I haven't had time to get under my own truck to check it out that well.

Guess I'll be looking at a 5" system in the future just for the heck of it.

The 03-04 trucks have a cast iron elbow on the turbo that necks down to 3.5" where the down pipe attaches and did not have a Cat. On the 03-04 the cast elbow can be replaced with a Banks down pipe to make a true 4" ssytem from the turbo back. The 04.5-05 trucks come with a cast elbow on the turbo as well, but it is 4" rather than 3.5" and comes with a Cat. On all these trucks the muffler is the most restrictive part of the exhaust so on the 04.5-05 trucks it works very well to remove the stock muffer and replace the exhaust between the Cat and tail pipe only.

Neil58,

Just give us a call. We supply the parts needed for your truck in a kit for either the 4040 or the 4040L installations.

I'm looking for feedback from anyone that has used this system that Mark has. I have the 2004.5 CTD, DRW, QC.

I'm looking for information regarding installation and sound.....especially sound while towing a heavy load. Since it's next to impossible removing the stock muffler simply by unclamping it, I'm planning on taking a sawzall and cut the sucker off........will there be enough replacement pipe to extend back to the remaining exit pipe?

I tried like hell finding a place to install a 51" Nelson and all I heard was: "Geez, that thing is a torpedo! We don't have a 4" pipe bender so we can't do it." Or, "We can do it, but it's going to hang down a bit." I tried all of the local and not so local muffler shops.....finally gave up and returned the Nelson. Now I just want to rid myself of the restrictive stock muffler and have a free flowing muffler installed without the hassle of hearing about muffler shops unable to bend 4" pipe.......that being said, it's critical to already have the pre-bent pipe so I can do it myself or take it to the muffler shop and have them cut off the old and bolt on the new.

Thanks for the help guys.
