Driving Unloaded in Tow/Haul Mode??

Ok for starters I love my truck to death but the tranny leaves a lot to be desired. I will be going the full billet route within the next year but was wondering if any harm will come from driving in the tow/haul mode in the tranny. It seams to stiffen up the shifts a bit. What exactly does the tow haul mode do? I do have the "drive it like you stole it" mentality so that doesn't help any. Any info to make it last just a bit longer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

TH raises shift points, locks 3rd and 4th gear (not just 4th)....and i believe firms up the shifts in general...

No harm, I did it before the trans rebuild and do it after. Modifies shift points, locks third, and brings line pressure up quicker from what I'm told.

I drive in tow/haul when I'm accelerating from certain intersections, like one that is slightly up hill, because the locked TC allows the truck to accelerate so much faster using the torque of the engine with less throttle input. I'll usually use it when I'm going from stop light to stop light as well. Mine locks up at 27 mph in 3rd, revs up to about 1900 - 2k, then unlocks, shifts, and re-locks in less then a second, as it shifts into 4th at 43 mph.

i think for driving around town t/h mode is great. not only does it firm up the shift, increase shift points/lockup and my personal favorite engine braking. It sounds stupid but i try to avoid the brakes as much as needed until their necessary and T/H mode really helps slow you down without an exhuast brake. With my shift kit and tow haul mode its pretty nice for in town driving. Also i didn't know it brought more line pressure earlier but would make lots of sense, i wish my truck started in T/H mode and than switched when i got on the highway lol.

I only drive in T/H mode. 42k on her with no tranny related issues.

I drive in T/H as often as I can remember to push the button, I wish there was a way for it to default to T/H and you had to push the button to take it out of T/H.

Sometimes on my drive home I'll look down half way there and ask myself how my truck got in T/H mode? Maybe someday you'll be as lucky as me and you'll start doing it without noticing

i dont know why the tranny didn't come like this stock. Its better to drive as a daily driver that way and some people agree so far...Now we got something else they can make for the next Smarty update haha...

I have the Jake Brake on my truck and the switch it is some how tied into the T/H switch. If I turn the EB switch on then it will also activate T/H, and then when I'm up to speed and in 4th gear, I can turn the switch off and it goes back to normal. It's a nice extra feature in having the Jake.

The only disadvantage to Tow/Haul I have noticed is a decrease in fuel economy in urban situations where you can't go much over 35mph.

I'm not talking about going faster. But for daily driving in highly populated areas where you dont go above 45mph. I dont think t/h would help you on the track seeing as full throttle runs on TH seem a little rough not to mention lockup in 3rd-unlock than switch to 4th lockup isnt the best for trying to keep with the power, atleast thats what i notice. If your gonna go fast t/h isnt needed but its nice in the city of stop and go

What about using it on a built tranny? I read somewhere up here where they didn't recommend it because the pressure could get too high and possibly damage valve body. Anybody else heard this?
