Don't tell my wife

OK so i am new to the whole deisel game and don't know a whole lot about trucks but was wondering is a muffler delete the same as a straight pipe? My wifes old 99 dodge cummins had a straight pipe on it and it sounded great and was looking to do the same on my 06. Didnt want to ask her the differance. And yes everyone go ahead and judge me my wife knows more about trucks than me. Dont be jealous.

Muffler delete just means that you have installed a "muffler delete" pipe in place of the muffler. A true "straight-pipe" is when you have removed the muffler, cat, and resonator, if equipped. Also, it depends on what year you are looking at. If it is a 98 CTD, you don't have a resonator or cat, so removing the muffler and installing a "muffler-delete" pipe now makes you "straight-piped"!

you will need to have the muffler delete pipe and a cat delete pipe to make it complete. if you love noise and dont care about drone you are fine. if you dont want the drone, better not remove the cat. you can get a short straight section of pipe to remove the cat at most truck places, but I would look into getting one that is flared on each end. it will be way easier to install. I would have the muffler delete pipe put in at a shop where they can weld it in so it wont rattle and leak.

The problem with her knowing more about trucks, is you cant tell her that your aftermarket tranny, juice/A2, and MBRP exhaust was only 500 dollars and it gives you 3mpg!

Who cares! It's gotta be better than the ones I've been meeting lately...........fence posts on the farm are smarter.

Now back on topic. I gutted my kitty and put a 4" pipe through the middle and put in a muffler delete pipe.
