Just removed a Donaldson 41", replaced it with a straight pipe, looking for comments about exhaust tips to reduce drone. Geno's straight pipe fits great, much better than the Donaldson, due to the offset, also the Donaldson had a rummble sound at idle when in drive. Noise level is not bad except when you mash it down. Finally sounds like a Diesel truck again...

 

Were are you located your profile is not field in.Did the straight pipe also just be easy win going by the chops they don't like spilling their coffee eating a Donut in some parking lot. It will set off car alarms going throw parking lots too.

 

I second the setting off car alarms, i still chuckle every time i do it

 

I passed a cop going up a steep hill at about 70 mph the other day, BELIEVE ME I watched his face VERY closely in the mirror!!! He never gave it a second look!
I dont really hear any echo from passing cars or noise in the cab at highway speeds either. I get the impression that once you get up over about 2200 rpm it really quiets down A LOT!!

I just wish we had a few tunnels around where I live!!!

 

cops don't really pay attention to my truck... even when I had the stacks on it... they pay a lot of attention to rice burners and pony cars, but diesels don't really get a second glance.

"straight pipe" = nothing but pipe from the turbo to the tailpipe... no cat, no resonator, no muffler, no nada... just straight pipe.

That would be illegal.

That's what I love about the '03 trucks....they didn't come with a cat so they don't have to have one.

I can't imagine how loud a straight pipe is, because the DPPI 4" is so loud when I'm on it that it actually hurts my ears sometimes when the windows are down and I'm stomping it with a heavy load in tow. Empty it's not too bad because the truck pulls through the rpm's a lot more quickly. Tunnels and buildings on the right are a lot of fun, you can hear the sound reflecting back off the walls. Setting off car alarms all the time in airport parking garages

 

if you tow a lot, you might not like straight pipe...

I've done a lot of sound deadening, so it's not bad at all on my truck.

I'm not real sure what you're talking about.....but yeah, I have neither of those so I guess so.

I can't imagine that a straight pipe would be much louder than the DPPI exhaust is. The DPPI exhaust is basically a straight pipe anyway....except for the 30" of "spiral flow". I haven't heard a straight pipe yet, but I wouldn't think that spiral flow would do much of anything to the sound.

 

it does... there is NO comparison to straight pipe... it may not do "much", but I assure you there's a noticable difference.

But the ultimate question....does the straight pipe have that ricer sound? I hated the sound of my DPPI exhaust when I first got it. Now I have grown accustomed to it and I actually like the way it sounds....but at first I was thinking I had made the wrong decision.
