Does an Exhaust tip really make a diff in Sound???

Just installed a 5" turbo back on my 06. It dumps downwards after the rear axle. my buddy told me i need to put a 6 or 7 inch tip on it and it would sound better...will it really make a difference?

More oooohs and aahhhhhs from your buddies.....

My tone was slightly, very slightly, deeper but nothing that I would say buy it for. IMO it is a bling thing.

i think tips make a whole lot of difference. I like the 6 inch tips, i kinda think 7 inch is alittle overkill.

i went from factory tip to a five inch 24 inch tip and it changed it a tad, I am not sure if it was because it pointed more rear ward or what. but yes the smaller one I used most certainly changed it. in my case better. seemed deeper.

I was running a 4" in x 6" out tip and it made a big difference in sound depending on how far it extended past the tailpipe. The note was a good bit deeper.

Great question! This is something I have been wondering about myself. I really want to buy one of these AFE tips. But I haven't been able to justify spending over a hundred bucks on it. Has anyone ever had their tip stolen?

Now I'm thinking about it too. I got no tip on mine, just the regular ol' pipe.

There is no way I could justify that kind of $$ on a tip, But I am also a broke college student right now.

If your going to spend the $$ might as well do one of these.

I had a 5"x24" then I switched to this one 6"x24" and now it's very aggressive deep tone with a drone.

thats why i get the one you weld on. not those bolt on ones.

tips also take away the echo or add an echo. i was told by an exhaust specialist and he explained it but its been a few years and cant explain it like he did. its been to long ago

on my toyota i put dual exhaust and when i my tips finally came in a changed the sound to much better.

My exhaust tip has been on my truck since it was new... I finally got tired of cleaning all the soot off of my bumper and a week ago I moved my exhaust tip so that extends out about 1.5" past the end of the bumper. This location is maybe 5" from where is was originally placed by the dealer.
Now the truck sounds exactly the same outside but the change inside the truck is dramatic!! it is much much quieter and it doesn't drone anymore. I suspect that the exhaust was causing the rear portion of the bed to resonate and it amplified the exhaust sound in the cab.
Anyway, for me at least, it was a nice consequence of just trying to keep my bumper clean.

I used to think a tip wouldn't change the sound much at all... I have two friends with 6.0 strokes both have factory pipes with muffler deletes, done just the same. Except one has a 8" tip and the other has the stock tip. The 8" tip is stupid loud standing beside the trucks at idle you can hear the difference.

Get a bolt on type and just tack it in a spot or two, stealing concerns remedied.
