Does the backspacing matter?

Does the backspacing matter?
Guys, can you answer this question for me, Am I right by saying that no matter what backspacing a wheel is as long as it is 17 inches, it will fit my 35.12.50.r17 Procomp Mud Terrains?

Assuming the wheel is wide enough (which it probably will be) then no, the backspacing will not effect the tires fitting on the wheels. It might, however, have an effect on whether you rub a lot or fling rocks into your rocker panels.

my problem now is that my tires are rubbing my control arms, and I'm thinking that if I can find a 17 inch rim with less backspacing that I will not have this rubbing issue, am I correct?

Yup, that is correct. The H2 wheels have less backspacing than the stock Dodge alloys, and usually correct the rubbing problem with 315s. My 2" spacer in the front fixed my rubbing problem.
