Ive always been a smarty guy, but after two days of playing with the smarty on the dyno, trying every possible combination with it and the tst, the highest hp they could achieve was 520hp!!! Just for a comparison the guys at ats dropped the smarty and added the crazy larry. First run was 644 hp and that was with the tranny slipping. Mike said that from what he saw theres a lot left in the motor but they are gonna pull the tranny first and fix that little problem. So hopefully after fixing the tranny and a little more tuning, 700 hp might be with in reach! I was very surprised that the cl out did the smarty, i guess that goes to show that every truck is different and what works on one might not be the answer for another. Will post some more #s when this is all said and done. Sorry i didnt get the tq #s.

well, ill be the first to say that im still in aw, I mean after all the reading, all the research ive done on the smarty, i never would of thought i would of seen that big of difference on my truck between the two. Now i dont know what to do. With out it being on the dyno, i never would of have thought about switching. But now after seeing that kind of evidence first hand, whew, kind of hard not to believe it. im gonna have to sleep on this one.......hehe

 

What version of Smarty were you running?

 

I use the dyno for comparison and tuning also, but the bottom line for me is what was the 60' time, 1/4 ET and trap speed. Those are easier numbers to compare for me. On mine the Smarty ran .2-.3 seconds faster in the 1/4. I certainly did not try all the possible stack combos, but more than a few. Every truck seems to be different for sure.

 

I was running the "wild program". I agree that hte 1/4 mile is where its at. Now if i was testing on a different dyno and different place and time, i might be a little leary, but same dyno, same day, same place. Kind of hard to beat that. But like i said everybodys truck is different. Im not gonna sit here and say whats best for everyones truck. Someone else can do this same test and it can turn out completley opposite. All im saying is what is working best on my truck so far. Both are excellent products and would recomend either one. Just saying that people need to be open minded enough to try both and see what works the best. The results may suprise you.

Typically the two programmers are within a few HP. Like in the 10-20 HP range, not 120 HP.

 

i agree, all im relaying is the #s the dyno read out. I dont know why the smarty would go over 520. Played with the timing, fuel rail pressure never dropped below 25K, Tried the even #s on smarty and used the tst timing, tried the odd #s on smarty and turned the timing off on the tst, i mean they played with it for 2 days. Everything was there, but the hp. Im just as confused as the next guy.

 

The program wasnt actually the crazy larry, ATS called them and they wrote a program for my truck based on what i had. Not sure what they call it., Who knows maybe they are just trying to sell me a bdcl.................lol

 

While i have u here don, are my injectors standard flux 3s, or did u build them for what i had on the truck?

 

I thought they were like 3.3's. I cant recall off the top of my head.

 

Good question, i cant remember either, i thought they were flux 3s. Remember mine were the ones from ATS that had a wide rate of flow across all 6 injectors

 

Im gonna wait for bob to chime in and see if he has any suggestions. Like i said im a smarty man, i just cant believe what i saw.

It was the Scary Larry if I had to bet. I know of a truck that has similiar mods as my 05 and we are that far apart on the dyno compared to the Smarty. The only major difference is I have scary larry. It is a MEAN program. Possibly that's what they put on your truck.

I'm not knocking the Smarty at all. The Scary Larry (for the 05 autos) is that far ahead of the regular "crazy larry" from the website.

I agree dyno numbers aren't everything. Use whatever works best on your truck.

I'm going to try a smarty on the 03 and see if it works better than it did on my 05. Maybe I was comparing apples to oranges with the scary larry.

I always hear that about the 05 auto and scary larry. Im gonna have to check in to that and see if thats what they sent. I bet it is too. Thanks luken, nothing through the roof, but something to work off of anyway.
