The 2006 automatic transmission will have two major upgrades over the 2005:

1) Tow haul mode AND O/D lockout
2) Exhaust brake compatibility

IIRC, the 2005 motors are rated at 305HP and 555TQ; the 2006 motors are 325HP and 610TQ.

The 2006 also has an upated interior. I happen to like it a lot but I know many prefer the older style.

Finally, the 2006 offerings include the Megacab. That wasn't available previously.

The biggest thing I like is the head lights on the 06. I had a 02 before... I can actually see at night now! A little too well though. They're so bright... especially with the driving lights on... I get high beamed a lot because people think they are my high beams

05 and 06 are identical drivetrain wise. The o/d lockout was the only difference and there is a reflash at a dealer to remedy this.

Drivetrain is pretty much identical. The computer and electrical systems are different on the '06 that allows for some diiferent features that the '05 doesn't have. I will have to look at my PMT to remember what they are.

The reflash you are referring to changes the tranny programming completely and removes the Tow/Haul programming in exchange for OD lock out.

I have an '05 and had the chance to update the front end to an '06+ and love the looks.

Also, I like the '05 interior a lot better as well. The dash looks nicer and I think the seats are more comfy. I know that stock for stock just using a BDTD w /CL that the '05 responds better than the '06.

Half of the 05's out there also came with a plastic end-cap charge air cooler "intercooler" that seems to not like high boost for miles and miles like the all aluminum ones.

Early 05's dont have the g56. g56 is suppose to be better, but the dual mass flywheel is a problem. Build date 06/06 had issues with excessive egt's with tst chips. I think most of the others work.

If you plan on modding it, check the '06 to see if it's an '06.5. Trucks built on or after June 2006 can't run a TST or VA C5.
