Did my tone ring mod today..
I did the mod about two weeks ago and have tried it with a combination of different things. With nothing but stock fueling there is a noticable increase in throttle response and power below 2000rpm. With the EZ it is better throughout the whole power range. The TST is more difficult to tell just because of the major increase that it provides alone, but I believe that it is somewhat better off the bottom from 1100-1500rpm. The bullydog comes in lower than my TsT so I can not tell by S.O.P. meter. Nov 5 th there is a dyno day at Garmons in Mcdonough GA. and I will get some real #s with as many combos as possible, maybe with a Ts module also. RAY

I'm there!
UPDATE: After running 3 tanks worth of fuel through my 555 engine I'm going to be headed outside right now and slide the ring back to the stockish position. I've checked the milage on every tank since I bought the truck and this mod on my individual truck resulted in a 2.4mpg DECREASE in milage. So like I said i'm gonna slide it back and see what happens. Who knows maybe I went a little too far. Next spring when the temps around here level off again i'll mess with it some more. But by then i'll probally have a box of some sort so only time will tell.
Given how easy this mod is I would still recomend that people with poor milage give it a try. Especially the folks with the fuel hungry 610's.
Still love my Cummins,
Mike

Hoss,
I was getting 14.3mpg before, 11.9 now. That's averages, I know that if I gave it more time it would be a smaller gap because I would have more highway trips on it. But none the less 2.4mpg is quite a drop. I noticed it right away on the over head and on the trip odometer. (The milage for the three tanks since the mod is 12.4mpg, 11.5mpg and 11.8mpg) Do note that at least 90% of my driving is city, stop and go driving. The little "highway" is see's is for about 5-7miles at a time at 60-85mph, so that doesn't help the numbers either.
And i'm not complaining about the 14.3mpg average at all.
One of my coworkers who drives almost exactly the same as I do, averages about 12mpg with his F250 gasser and it just a regular cab, long bed. Needless to say that truck is parked and he drives his audi a6 most of the time.
As a side note, I didn't notice any more low end grunt either, which leads me to believe that the 555's are fairly well set up timing wise for the stock fueling.

are you sure you went the right way and didnt retard the timing more? with as easy as it is to do, why not try shoving it fully the oposite direction and see what happens? im running an 03 6sp ho w/ 4.10's and averaging over 20mpg/700miles per tank.. most of my driving is stop and go on I5 rarely geting a chance to hold the speed steady.. i picked up about 1.5 mpg avg over the last 5 tanks..

That's interesting. So far my truck has averaged about 22.5 mpg since doing the mod (22.3 city and 22.6 highway). Prior to doing the mod it got around 19.6 city and between 21 and 22 highway.
All this sounds very interesting. Probably try to make time for it this weekend unless you guys notice something in my sig that screams DON'T DO IT!
I have a buddy with a bone stock '02 HO. Do you think this mod would benefit him? I think someone reported an '03 HO just losing mileage.

From what I have been reading. The 02 - 03 models really don't benefit much if anything from this mod. It may be because they were spec'ed better or something in regards to timing. But for the 04 and newer, it seems to be a crap shoot and most are benefitting because the way they were thrown together on the line. Some do notice a difference whereas some (few) do not notice any difference. Maybe they might have already been advanced timed from the factory purely by accident.
My 05 picked up power in the lower rpm and also gained about 1.5 - 2 mpg around town. Even on the highway (70 - 75 mph) it seems to get better mileage.
