Debadging

Ever since I've gotten my dodge, I've wanted to debadge it. Earlier I was at the carwash, and decided to try something. I took the end of the nozzle of the gun, and stuck it right next to the badges, and just held it there for a little bit. Then I noticed the badge was starting to move. A few more seconds nad I could just peel it off. I don't know if anyone else has done this, but for me it was sure an easy way to get the badge off.

Cool....so side effects? I was going to do the fishing line thing as well, but using the carwash I could kill two birds with one stone, get the badges off and wash the truck so it's clean when I go to wax it!!!

Good idea.

Ya on the 07s all the badges come off fairly easily most are just double sided tape and all we did was take a pocket knife between the tape and badge and seperate them a little then you were able to pull the badge off the rest of the way and the tape was left on the truck and just pick it off a little paint thinner really helps. The toughest badges are on the tailgate the ram head right below the handle has a really tough type of double sided tape and its a pain to get off most of this type tape are found on the entire 06 truck and are a pain.

Well I went to AutoZone and asked the guy there if they had the 3m adhesive remover, and they didn't, but he showed me this other can called OOPS. Well he read it and was like yeah that would be ok to use to remove the badges. Well stupid me never checked the can for myself and I got to the house and started removing one of the badges. I used the fishing line and then used the OOPS to soften the adhesive and pull it off. Well after I took off the big 2500 Dodge badge (07), I started reading on the can and it said that it would remove dried latex paint. Then I thought oh no, so I ran up too the car wash and washed the area that it was on. I hope nothing bad comes out of it, and I know that car paint isnt latex based, but I called a buddy of mine that works at a shop and he was like well I woulnd't use it which it was a little too late for that. When I got to the car wash I thought of using the pressure gun, and it worked. Do you guys think that OOPS will mess up the paint??

get a 3m eraser wheel from a local auto paint supply house......they are about $20 or so and it will be the best easiest way to do it. i have used them for years and will not go back to any other method

Highly recommend the eraser style 3M wheel also. I did the fishing line removal thing for all the badges and then tried the nylon scraper with Goo Gone and that was taking too long. The wheel took it all off FAST with no marks.

NAPA carries them as well at least by me anyway. Not the 3M brand but equivalent. It is called a pinstripe removal wheel.

Just got back, he used that 3m eraser wheel and it turned out good. Another easy way of pulling hte badges off was using a bondo spreader, just a little piece of plastic used to spread bondo, but it worked really well pulling them off. He finished pulling off the other badges in no time, and then used the wheel. The finished looked turn out great, now I just need my Lorenz kit, then my wheels and tires and i'll be set

yea i wouldnt worry to much about using stuff like oops. i dont see it hurting the paint. if i remeber right my instructors at paint school said that clear when cured wont even come off with laquer thinner. plus at one point in time everyone lets a little diesel or gas run down the side of the car from over filling it and that doesnt mess with the paint. so anyways thats my 2cents.

I used fishing line a heat gun and my thumb!!!! on my 06, I will never do that again!!! I used floss on my 06 Mazda worked perfect didn't even have to buff any tape off it was sooo easy.
my 06 dodge wore a blister on both thumbs and took ALL day to do
I think the guys who used the wheels are the ticket....and the pressure washer if it works on the 06's???
whatever you you dont waste your time with a heat gun and fishing line...
my .02

That OOPS stuff is not bad on paint, I use it to remove tar when I don't have any WD-40 handy.
