CP3 leaking ???

I saw a couple drops on the garage floor a few days ago and it looked like oil. Today I decided to crawl under the truck and see whats going on. I put paper towels on the garage floor the last few days and didn't see anything. And when I crawled under the truck a bit ago I saw a fairly clear drip on some wiring, smelled and it smells like diesel, so I pop the hood and see some wetness on the CP3. The CP3 has been kinda rusty since I bought the truck new. It is an 05 with about 29000 miles. Didn't think much of the rustyness on the CP3until my dad got an 04.5 with 85000 miles and it is clean as can be. I think it might have been leaking since new. Where could it be leaking? I had a powerpup on it before so i'm sure a dealer can figure that out. I'm pretty good friends with a service guy at local dealer what should I say? It is not a bad leak, just a couple drops every few days, should I wait to take it in or do it now? Suggestions please.

Try this

There have been a number of discussions on that subject. Mostly happens when cold weather comes on.

Try the following thread:

https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...t=rich2500+cp3

also do a search for 'rich2500 cp3' and you'll see a few
more threads.

the pump leaks between the two halves of the housing, return your truck to stock program and take it in and see if the dealer will cover it,if not a reman. pump runs around $1300.00 from cummins and alot more through dodge,if you don't wanna lay out the bucks to have them replace it you could do it yourself.your other option is as I did pull your pump and throw new o-rings in it for about $25.00.

Rich2500....is your pump still working after your "rebuild"? How many miles do you have on it? I can't find the o-rings that you mentioned a while back. Thx

I had the same problem. Took it to the dealer and had it replaced 10,000 miles ago. They are aware of a problem with seals on some of the CP3's. Ask for a re-manufactured CP3. If they give you a new one it may be another unit with poor seals.

Thanks for the info guys. My wife just took it in today and they reflashed the computer with the latest update. The service person who did it said he would let us know if there are any new updates that come available. Do you guys know if this means that the powerpup that used to be on my truck will still be detectable or with the update they wouldn't be able to tell? I will probably wait a while to take it in so they don't think I wanted an update to get rid of something that was in the ecm, just so I could get it fixed under warranty.
