Cooper Discoverer AT3 tires

Does anyone have these? Do you like them? I have the Discoverer ATRs (the old version) on my other truck and liked them. Good traction and great wear.

My 03 came with Big O XTs and they did terrible in the snow/ice and now in the mud. I got stuck and left some ~16" deep ruts Saturday. So its time to upgrade. I am looking at them in a 285/70R17.

Thanks

I bought them and put them on my 4 runner and I like them. I have about 12K miles on them and they are hardly showing any wear. Drove it to the mountains in AZ on Friday night after about 6 inches of snow and never lost traction at all. They are quiet also. I have ATRs on my 04.5 dodge and will be replacing with the AT3 this summer.

I had one of them split the sidewall after about 15 miles. I drove the truck home, parked it, and heard air leaking. The tire shop replaced it for free.

Thanks - This is exactly what I was hoping to hear.

Have you had good luck with them since that?

I have 285 ATRs on my truck and they are 5 years old with 75,000 miles on them and probobly 15,000 left to go. I dont see how I can buy anything else when the time comes to replace them. I dont realy take care of them either. I tow heavy all summer and almost never rotate them. I only check the air presure once a year before our vacation trip and they just dont seem to wear at all. I asume the AT3 is the replacment for the ATRs. I hope they dident mess with them to much cause they already wear like iron.

The first set of ATR's I had wore like Iron. The second set were almost bald in 35,000. When I had to buy new tires last year the AT3's were on back order. Had to buy a different brand. Tried the Dynapro ATM, got almost 10,000 and they are still looking great. Traveling from WY to ND and haven't had a single problem all winter. Jury is still out on how they will last once things get warm.

I haven't had any other trouble in the 5,000 miles I've ran them. Grandpa had a Cooper S/T with a large bulge in the sidewall after about 100 miles. I prefer Michelin tires.

Just got a quote of $943 for 4 with tax, mounting, and balancing.

Does that sound about right? Not many places with prices online.

Sounds about right. Mine were a little less but they were 265-70-16 in the lighter seriers for suv. If you are getting 285-70-17 in the E rated tire it sounds like a good price.

Got a quote for 6 of the AT3's today, $1248 plus tax..

asked about the ATR, here is how they explained it:

The ATR treas design had a single "band" in the tread design around the center of the tire. This caused it to "crown" slightly when loaded. Customers complained of "skating" on this crown until the tire had some tread wear to it, which took awhile
.. The AT3 has 3 bands in the design to correct this issue, same materials used in construction of the tire. However the ATR was rated as a 70K tire, the AT3 is a 55K tire..

My buddy's 10,750# 2007 CTD w/flatbed mounted Phoenix camper has successfully logged hundreds of miles aired down to 30# in desolate northwestern Baja with Toyo 285-75-17 AT's. No flats or structural damage.
It's hard to believe any tire could do that.

The AT3's look great but...it would be nice to run into someone who's put them through the same abuse.

I have Toyo 285-75.17's open country tires with about 40k on them it is time to replace them. I plow in winter and tow in summer
, they are almost useless in the snow right now, I am thinking of finding a tire with larger lugs to last longer, but I have never had a flat and they are rugged.

The new ATII's have a more aggressive tread and longer tread life compound. They have sidewall lugs now also.
