Con FE break-in
Con FE break-in
I need some advice on my clutch I put in on Wednesday. I did it all by the book, flywheel ground w/ceramic stone, torqued pressureplate bolts etc. Drove it for 250 mi. on stock and then started bumping up the edge 1 then 2 for another 250 mi. Now I have 600 mi and I thought I would roll into the throttle on 5 and see what happens. Hit it in 3rd, 4th, then when it got to about 2k in 5th the tach jumped up and I could feel it slipping bad. I dont want to damage it, but was I babying it too much? Since I put it in, I dont have the jerking everyone else says they have. Feels just like stock for grabbing, except for the pedal is harder to push and it grabs 2-3 in. off the floor. I will call Pete in the am but I was wondering what you guys thought. Thanks for reading my excessivly long write up
This is just my opinion but if it still feels like stock than its probably not broken in yet, when it starts to get really grabby on engaugement then its broken in.. Give it some more stop and go driving then try and beat on it.
Mine was that way too at first and yes i slipped it ealy on before it was broken in. But now it holds 458hp and 918 tq with no problems.

Well, I called Southbend and in a polite and professional manner I was told to quit babying it and work it. I was always starting in 1st and never really slipping the clutch to start out. I then was starting in 2nd and 3rd and it seems to have helped a lot. Tonight on the way home, I revved it to 1100 and slipped the clutch to start moving. Since then, It feels a lot grabbier. If I dont give it a little throttle in 2nd, it bucks and chirps the tires. I guess you need to beat these things a little to make them work. Thanks for the replies!
