Clutch Slipping - Upgrade Question
Clutch Slipping - Upgrade Question
Hi Folks,
Just looking for some advice here. '06 4x4 QC 2500 with Edge Juice w/ Attitude, BFG 315/75/17 on H2 wheels.
Noticed with the Juice in Street mode the clutch would slip a bit. Over the past month or so I'm seeing a lot more slip. I don't abuse my clutch but I do have a pretty tight slip I have to back my trailer into and from time to time I'm sure it's been pretty rough on the clutch.
Rather than go stock I was thinking of upgrading. That'd put me in the running for some additional mods, though I'm most likely to upgrade with fuel economy in mind. That is, I'm not likely to do much that would drop my fuel eco too much during daily driving but I think I can get a good bit of power without sacrificing too much.
Anyway, the choice of clutches from South Bend (in particular) has me pretty confused. I do tow, though not heavily and generally mild loads. Some offroading but just trails. No pulling or anything like that. So I'm looking for a clutch for the street that can handle a decent power increase.
So any SB users out there that can recommend a direction for me to go in with the performance envelope I'm generally shooting for (knowing I'm being pretty vague here).
Thanks!

I am sure i will be needing a new clutch next year. I will be going with the single disk SB G56-OFEK good to handle 450HP and 900 ft/lbs. The only thing I will be running is my Smarty JR but having that extra room for mods is always nice!!
SBC Con OFE
I am running a SBC single disc Con OFE clutch I purchased and installed a few years ago and I really like it. I have moderate modifications and am making more power than stock but couldn't tell you how much. I do tow and have pulled up to 10,000 lb of horse trailer and livestock with no problems. It engages nicely and has good street manners.
I ordered the clutch linkage upgrade kit also but upon receiving it I wish I had just manufactured a steel plate to mount on the back side ot the stock slave cylinder to prevent the plastic ears from breaking off the slave cylinder. That is not to say the kit is not good but for my useage it was overkill.
If you are going to tow more than 10K you may wish to consider a double disk but there is additional cost. Once you settle on a manufacturer contact them and they will make a recommendation appropriate to your useage. There is nothing worse than ordering a clutch that engages roughly designed for sled pulling if all you want to do is tow a travel trailer or boat and have good street manners for a daily driver. Good Luck!

Thanks so much guys!
Going to call SBC up and get some info from them.
EDIT:
Spoke to SBC they recommended street dual for me. Sounds pretty nice, a bit stiffer pedal (which I don't mind) but they say it's not grabby on take up which differs a bit from what I've read here.
