Which chip to get?

Out of all the chips out there, which one do you guys recommend for cheap, but very good power, and mpg's out of it. I don't have anything done to my 04.5 CTD except a straight pipe, and I don't want to spend alot of money. I do a ton of driving without a load, and just want some extra power to play with and to get better MPG's. Which one do you guys suggest?

quad race. if you can keep your foot out of it, you WILL gain mpg. and when you wanna go fast, it makes good power.

edge juice w att... If you are all stock, this box is what you want... It has all the gauges you want/need, safe defuel for high egt's and trans slippage and it makes a butt load of power. It is a very good box. I ran it on my '05... I have one (took it off with the deal at trade-in) and I will sell it for a good deal. PM me if interested...Jake

I think quad has the best deals, but the tst r49 is a box you can build with. Stand alone or keep adding. Honestly unless you get bitten by the bug then about any box will do enough to break your stock truck.

So it looks like the quadzilla race is winning. What is the difference between a chip and a programmer like the Smarty? Would just getting a programmer be a better way to go?

a "chip" is a module that intercepts sensor outputs to the ecm, modifies them so the ecm will be 'tricked' into providing more fueling, different timing, and duration, and making more power, with improvements in driveability. Modules(chips) are also adjustable on the fly.

Downloaders(programmers) replace the factory program with a more aggressive tune. they are not adjustable on the fly. the added benefit of a programmer is easy to install(about 3 minutes max) read and clear trouble codes, and most adjust for larger tires.

Well I ended up getting a Quadzilla Race box with the digital controller off Ebay brand new with a free AFE filter for a great deal. It came in today, and it was out of the box and in the truck within a matter of minutes. Needless to say, I love the power, and I love the fuel milage it's getting. Great product Quad!

Keep in mind that your Overhead reading is now about 10-20% off. Part of what a performance chip does is to trick the trucks computer in regards to how much fuel its using.
