Cat Back or Turbo Back?

hey yall just looking for some opinions on the ups and downs of either system. Ease of install, cab drone, worth price diff? Never going to be a sled puller but performance does matter. DTR shop has some good deals going on for the mbrp catbacks, but thought id ask first...

Also, anyone from north florida?

Just did a 5" MBRP Catback from just a stock system w/ muffler delete.
In the cab not much more than stock. No drone.
Outside still got a nice smooth growl when I get on it.
Easy install.
I'm sure it'll get a touch louder when I weld on the 6" tip.
The only bad part about upgrading the exhaust on these trucks is getting the old muffler off.
That's the majority of the time right there.

When I did mine, I went from the cat back because of the Calif. regs and replaced the stock muffler with an MBRP.
Its just a little louder in the cab than stock.
From what I understand, if you went from turbo back it should be a little louder.

Yeah its possible but if you can get away with it just get rid of it. i would go with a turbo back system and say screw the cat.

we dont have emissions inspections/ controls in florida, so i might just wait for a turbo back system, but that DTR deal sure is sweet sounding!

I prefer the turbo-back 5" kits with a Donaldson M09035 muffler. Easy to install and sounds great when you're done.

I'm running 4" from turbo back STRAIGHT PIPE. I bought my muff delete from RPM outlet and drove down to peterbilt for a 4" straight pipe approx. 43" long. Couldn't be happier, neighbors just LOVE it at 5 in the morning!!

Will a muffler shop just cut out my stock from the cat back and weld in some straight pipe for me. In TX we can run straight on a turbo diesel. I am pretty new to this, would this be a bad idea? I want noise and smoke.

I dont think any state is legally able to demo the cat completly if they were on there from the factory. I never run them but I never could talk any muffler shop into doin the work for me though either.

The previous statement is for off road purposes only and may not be used as evidence against me in any court of law......... even DTR night cout.

Why not just cut out stock muff and replace with Donaldson or Nelson straight thru? Works good for me. Sounds real good. And doesn't cost much at all....

R U sure? I know here in the sorry azz capital they are cracking down on diesel emmisions big time, they might be coming your way. They hooked some crap up to my tailpipe and checked for a muffler and cat, dummies didn't know 03s have no cat from the factory!

I just put in a muffler delete from RPM on the stock system. Not too much $$$, and I think it sounds great. From reading tons of info, it appears the CAT has very little restriction - not worth removing.

Hypothetically, if you were to pull off the cat, you'd see how very restrictive it would be if you tend to make some smoke.

So, what should I do then, just have a muffler shop cut out the muffler and weld in straight pipe? Will that get me the sound I am looking for? Since it doesnt have the cat to cut out, what would be the alternative? I spoke to a custom muffler shop this morning and they said they would do it all for me under the table.
