Angry Can't STAND ignorance!

As a bunch of you all know, I have had a dyno run scheduled for this morning for about a WEEK. First thing that I asked them when I called to schedule was if they had the connections, etc for a diesel truck so that I can get hp AND torque and they said "yes". Well me and my buddy took our trucks in there along with another buddy who wanted to get his 350Z dyno'ed and they were like "Oh, we're sorry, but we can't give you torque numbers on your diesels...do you still want to run them?" I was like "you have GOT to be kidding me right...I just drove out here and wasted my time...you specifically told me that you could run my truck and give me hp and tq and now all of a sudden after a 30 minute drive, you can't? NO I'm not getting on the rollers...do you know anybody that CAN give me tq numbers on my truck?!"

His response..."I don't think that anybody in San Diego County can give you tq numbers"

Autotech Motorsports...stay away from them SoCal guys.

I have used 5 different dyno's at 4 locations in the Houston area. None of the three Dynojets had the optical pickups, or whatever is needed to measure torque, on diesels. The only ones that provided torque numbers were the Mustangs. They just don't seem to want to go through the extra work setting up to get the torque.

The only Dynojets I have torque numbers on were the portable ones brought to diesel events.

As big a place as SoCal is, you would figure that they would have some Dynojets with the optical pickups...I called from Chula Vista to Santa Ana and NOBODY with a Dynojet could give me tq numbers...

PS...what kinda numbers do you think that I should expect on a Mustang with my setup?

Well I have never dyno'd the exact same setup on both, but in general the Mustangs seem to produce a little lower numbers. Not a lot, but lower in my case.

I thought there was a formula for torque, you could figure it out with a calculator, based on engine rpm @ HP ??????? Since he could not give you the Torque number, you might have been able to get the dyno cheaper, as he is only giving you half the results, 75% of full price seems fair.
.
. HP * 5252 / RPM = Torque

They were pretty shiesty man...I brought up pricing to them (asked them if I could get dyno'ed for cheaper since they couldn't give me everything that I was expecting due to them telling me the wrong information) and they told me that they couldn't do that. They said that their Dynojet was too expensive to let people dyno for really cheap prices...like ALL the people that have been on that sucker haven't already paid for it 10 times over for the $75 for two pulls that they ask...me and my buddy just walked away, pretty ticked off for having our time wasted. I would rather go somewhere else and pay a little more if I have to and spend my money on competance.

On another note...I don't understand how that formula to get torque would work...I have seen a LOT of trucks run similar HP numbers, but their TQ numbers were VERY UN similar...

Uhhhh...... There is no such thing as 'Horsepower'

It is a calculated value based on RPM and torque. That's why horsepower and torque are always the same at 5200 rpm's, that's the constant multiplier used to calculate horsepower.

I've never seen a chart that didn't include torque. Hmmm. I need to get out more.

I did a dyno @ Superior Automotive Engineers in Anaheim a little while ago and they use a Dynojet I believe.
Being a stock truck, I turned 282 for HP and 522 torque.
Thinking about going back down there to see if any improvement.

$0cal, numbers will be very different, similar hp at even slightly different rpm make a huge difference. 500 HP @ 2000 rpm is 1313 tq, where the same 500 hp@ 2250 rpm is 1167 tq, and again 500 @ 2500 rpm is "only" 1050 tq. God bless your tranny if ya make 500 hp @ 1750 rpm, 'cause now you are talking 1500 ft lbs tq.

Then maybe you spoke with somebody that knew a thing or two...they are one of the ones that I called and they told me that they didn't have the Optical Pickup and couldn't give me true values either...

Either way I look at it, me and my buddy are better off. We could do two pulls for $75 at that HOLE down in Chula Vista that can barely fit our trucks into their garage anyway, or take them up to the Mustang in Poway and pay $100 for a full HOUR instead...I have about 18 different settings between the Edge and Puck and one on and one off that I MAY get higher numbers out of, and it just all in all sounds like a MUCH better deal to me...plus the guy who will be tuning for us has a DMax, rather than an RX-7...just feels better to me is all. I would rather read a little low then hope the TINY chain that they use as a hold back tool at the Chula Vista place when dyno'ing will even hold my truck...

Actually there is such a thing as Horsepower, granted it is a derivative of torque. But it is still a separate animal, being that it is the accelaration of the torque.

1 HP = 746 kW
1 HP = 522 ft-lbs/second.

Uh oh! Maybe another HP vs Torque thread, kind of like the chicken and egg discussions. Hope not.
