Can someone give a Smarty for dummies quick answer?

I am intrigued with the obvious GIANT claims that smarty is awesome specifically on this forum.

So I am looking to get a smarty.

They offer several models and frankly im hyper confused. What in the devil is the difference in all their models?

I have an 06 2500 Laramie with a 4" exhaust I recently purchased used. I used to own my signature truck, I know, I need to update the thing, but I sold the truck 2 years ago and missed it so much I bought another.

Basics you have

Smarty JR
Smarty S06 or senior
Smarty SSR

These are your 3 Smarty platforms or boxes for lack of a better term.

Any of these you can get custom UDC software for. Simple answer if you want a Smarty go with the S06 or senior. Later you can do some research on the UDC custom tunes.

The only other option I would look at for an 06 is EFI Live.

Good luck.

What is a catcher that MADS refers too? As in some models have 6 and some have 10?

If you're going to be near Columbia any time soon, I'll be happy to let you use mine and check it out.

The Catcher thing stands for clutch and traction challenger, if I remember right. It's just a catchy slogan. I believe the smarty Jr has six programs, and the Sr has 10. If you get the Revo Smarty, then you really only have 3/5 programs... on the old programs, (pre revo) the odd added timing and the even too timing away (or vise versa). With the Revo, you can add or take away timing on any number, so one and two are the same, etc.

Smarty used to be king, and I believe it still is on the 04.5 and 05 trucks, but I'm pretty sure EFI live is available for your year model truck... if you want the best progammer, I would look at that.

HTH...

Just some FYI stuff------>
Ashley Black's Diesel Performance is in Adairsville but their Web doesn't show anything on EFI

I think Garmon's Diesel in Griffin uses Doghouse Diesel in Alabama for there EFI support tuning but I could be wrong.

I've heard and read great reviews on other forums about Anarchy Diesel.

Most serious folks get the EFI V2 Flashscan unit and get a preliminary tune from their vendor and then "datalog" their driving habits and the vendor then fine tunes their program. It seems the way to go in my book.

I'm just waiting for the EFI folks to get the 2003-2005 programming completed before I buy a V2 unit and with the 2 licenses they give you I can have both my trucks up and running with EFI.

Efi is probably the best if you want the ability to change everything but for the early 3rd gen's like 03-04 I would look hard at UDC. I think if and when efi comes out for those yrs I still think it's will be limited or twice the cost for UDC. For 05 and up efi is probably the way to go.

EFI currently supports only 2006 and 2007 Dodges. The EFI Live folks have been working but not consistently on the 2003 through 2005 trucks. It may be a while before they get it done. That being said, I'm still waiting for EFI on the 2003 -2005 trucks so I can get a V2 with the 2 licenses they provide with it and have both of my trucks set-up with EFI.
