Bully Dog....traceable? and when to install?
Bully Dog....traceable? and when to install?
OK, so I accidentally bought a BullyDog Triple Dog Power Pup w/Outlook today.
Now, however, I'm getting a little nervous.
I don't want to:
a. mess up my truck
b. void any warranty
So, my questions are............
a. My truck only has about 1200 miles on it.......is it too soon to install the Bully Dog?
b. IF I have a problem with the truck that requires me to take it in for repair under warranty, and I set it back to stock, will the dealer know it was there? I really don't want to have to remove the Outlook to take the truck in, but I realize not doing so will raise suspicion...........just seems like a pain to have to do all that.
I have done a search........ok, well a few of them........and read lots of posts. Seems like there was something about key cycles being reset that would alert the dealer, but then somebody said that Bully Dog remedied that in Febuary. So I guess I'm not sure about the current status.
I have NO intentions of beating this truck
............it cost me entirely toooooo much money. I'm actually just after some monitoring capabilities and control, as well as a mild power increase in an attempt to gain mpg.
Thanks!

You will get the usual "You play you pay" crowd hammering on you for posting this - I MOSTLY agree with them, I just do not like the loud indignation with which they harp at people ;
That being said, you should contact the manufacturer and ask them about any footprints and key-cycle settings - get it from the source, so there will be no surprises later

Yeah, you are probably right......................
I doubt you will mess up your truck runnning things on the low setting. Warranty is another issue...if there is some sort of failure that could be caused by changing the fuel parameters then the dealer may indeed look deeper.
I have an outlook monitor installed on my 06, have not installed the triple dog programming. I want to put some miles on the truck and see what it does stock. Its kind of hard to accept the mileage I get with this truck after having an 03 but in fairness it is a bigger truck. Mileage is getting better with time but that will soon change with the arrival of winter fuel here.
You should not be resetting key cycles on your truck with the Bullydog.
Good luck calling Bullydog...I'm sure you won't get any kind of concrete answer.

Hey, I had a tst on my truck from about 30k or so on my truck and I never took it off when I went for service and the dealer knew I towed way too heavy and the dealer gladly replaced the ujoints every 6 months. He got paid I paid the $100. deductible so everyone was happy. That was the only warranty issue I ever had. Put the downloader on when you can afford to replace the parts that are likely to break if warranty is refused. The dealer may be ok maybe not....if you are prepared to pay most often times you don't. IF you run it on levels up to tow you should enjoy better mileage, performance and happiness. Get a set of gauges, fuel pressure, EGT and tranny temps (boost also if you go 4 pod) or something like a Quad commander. Keep the air filter changed often and cut a hole in the bottom of the air box. Replace the stock muffler with a more straight through flow model. IF you develop a positive relationship with your dealer buy your filters off them (even though they cost more though), have them do the oil changes (you supply the oil then check the drain plug, and dip stick before you leave the parking lot). If they see you and you do a little business with then you will get treated better when crap happens. IF they fail you once don't give them anything but a pleasant attitude, no work, no money. Worked for me an many others. ks
I wont bash you, I agree. I have a great relationship with my dealer such as ks, but I would take my tst or anything else off that I could just out of respect. I dont really want to throw it in thier face, who knows they may have a some new tech that wants to follow all the rules and end up screwin me.
But I have also been screwed too with big companies and I figger if you can get away with it go ahead, but if you dont, dont be suprised.

I agree about building a relationship with the dealer. By the time my 36k warranty was up, half of the guys knew me by name. We talked deer hunting, fishing, everything and became good buds. I went in for an AC complaint at 39k and it was covered because of the positive relationship i had with my dealer. the last 2 times i was there, the EZ was under the hood and the bullydog triple dog was under the seat. Not a word was said.

i think i was a little harsh about my statement, now i wont take it to the dealer for anything mechanical, my seats are trashed and im going in to complaint about that but i wont tell them my trannys fried (expecially since i have an ats) For a programmer i think its wrong to void the warrenty IMO so go for it.
