Break In Before Mods?

I am ordering some performance Mods this week for my 05' and I guy I work with who is a self proclaimed Diesel expert(power puke owner) said that a Diesel truck has a certain break-in period before you should add a electronic box or programmer. Is this BS or is there some weight to this? He explained that there is a time for your piston rings to break in. Any help or advice is appriciated.

the drive home from the dealer should more than cover it, sure the motor has a break in period untill you see a peak in fuel milage, but most feal these motors are ready when they leave the factory for most bombing. if I am wrong I am sure somone will jump down my neck and say so.

I would drive it long enough to know how it feels stock, then I would mod it.

Once you mod it you will wonder why you waited as long as you did whether it was 10 miles or 10,000 miles.

A couple thousand miles of hard driving is good, not for brake in, but just to make shure you got a good truck to start with, there is a lemmon that sneaks thru now and then.

I waited about 2500 miles, just b/c I didn't have the cash right after my wallet was emptied at the dealer.

another reason power puke wants you to wait comes to mind as well, it is that much longer that he hopes his truck is faster/ stronger than yours.

Exactly. WHen you mod, you run the risk of having no warranty. Mods might not hurt your truck, even if they are moderate, but the truck might have issues to begin with. After you box it, you might be screwed if you need work on the truck.

Having said that, I waited 10,000 miles to mod. Got over 30,000 miles now, so far only repair has been a set of rear brake pads (inboard ones got think, lots of dusty roads, so I got sheilds now, but the stock pads were done).

Enjoy.

Thank for the input, I think I'll go ahead and let r' rip!! There are two power puke owners on my ship that have mods and a buddy of mine said he overheard them "worrying" about what they would have to do to keep up with mine! Hopefully I can spank'em!
