Question Brakes and Pwr Steering Quit

2006 Dodge Ram 2500 5.9 Turbo Mega Cab. I stopped at stop sign, going straight and power steering and power brakes quit at the same time jst after the intersection. I'm pretty handy to fix stuff, but don't know if this is electrical, pump or a vacuum of some kind. Where do I start? I don't want to take this to the dealer. I can't afford them any more.

Power steering pump takes ATF 4+ first off. The power steering pump runs the power steering and Hybroboost brakes. Check for a leak of some kind. One of the hose going to the hydroboost has been known to leak and just flat out let go. Check to see if you have enough fluid then go from there.

Thank you for giving me a starting point. If there is no leak, is it the pump?

No leak, then yes, it is more than likely the pump. If you have a 4x4, then check the steering box also. They have been known to leak.

Has the pump been making any noise? It's always good to suck out some fluid and replenish. There's no filter so taking some out and replacing it is the only way to keep the system cleaned out. Eventually, all that contamination ruins the pump and hydroboost. Craig

No the pump is not making any noise. I did figure out the problem. My water pump went out causing the belt was just tight enough to turn but not turn my power steering pump. I did notice that my fluid was dirty. Is the reservoir a small portion of the fluid? I was going to take out as much as possible. I'm also changing the belt which has only been changed once in 200,000 miles. I need to spend more time under the hood.
