Boost really high all of a sudden

The other night, as I was trouble shooting a FP problem, I took the truck for a test drive, hit lock up on the tranny, and got on it, lvl 5 on the edge, about 75% on the MP8.

I was watching my guages, and the boost shot to 53 PSI!!! I have never seen over 42.

Stock turbo. New tranny recently.
I am scared to overspeed my stocker, but it seems weird that this is happening all of a sudden.

???? Any thoughts?

TIA!!!

Maybe level 5 on the Edge and or 75% on the MP8 did a little boost fooling.

Double boost fueling and 33k psi stacking two pressure boxes and running them at the max...all of sudden tends to make power....now that there is funny..fuel pressure problem is cured I guess. KS

The Juice does not do pressure on a 04.5.

But...that being said...do not run more than 50% on the MP-8.

Usually...you see less boost from a turbo that is headed south.

I'm not concerned about the turbo going bad at this point.

I have had the MP-8 at 100% and the edge on 5 before a few times... never seen it like this. Maybe I just didn't do it like this before. Maybe I hit a sweet spot...

How much boost will a stock turbo produce before it self destructs? I know that it becomes inneffective after a certain point, I think that ~40 is the number...

Well you should be...

I have killed two of them at 42-45 psi on my 04.5 with the same fueling.

If it blows, can't it send metel into the intake?

all that aluminum and oil will be shoved into the intercooler and pretty sure at 50+ psi something will get into the intake.

Seems pretty logical to me. Pieces could/would end up lodged inside the intercooler too. I bet that's fun to deal with.

Sounds like the problem could be a bad boost gauge. No way the truck just randomly changed fueling enough to increase max boost by 11psi.

the turbo sure is a concern at those psi's but, what is scarier than that is.... what your drive pressure must be if you get to 53psi on a stocker. That will melt a piston real quick. Don't be doing that mang !

38lbs is where I had my stocker set and it survived. In a box under the bench in my garage now. Keeping it for my lawn mower when I need a little more from it.

No, what I mean when I said I'm not worried about the turbo... I mean I don't think that it's broke now.

I talked to another good friend of mine tonight, and he says check the plumbing pre-turbo... maybe I got a leak

I'll tell you what, that freak takes off at about 32 psi... like the turbo spooling again.

I have checked the guage with an air compressor... +/- 2 PSI from 2 to 60.

Well what we mean is that you should concerned because it won't last long at 53psi. Neither will your engine.

ARe you sure its not a fluke from your edge monitor? Have you repeated the 53psi?
