I have been loosing coolant for the past month,and to day iwent to check the coolant and i saw some oil residue in the coolent.so do yall think i blew my headgaskets. the truck runs fine but every once in a while the truck will get hot but it cools off real quick.

 

if you have oil in the coolant, it sure sounds like a headgasket. How did you take it out so fast.

 

yup sounds like it, when i blew mine it ran fine untill it got over 40psi boost, but under that it you would never know. I would have it checked out for sure.

 

I have know idea how i took it out that fast.Should i take it to the dealer or have a diesel shop fix it.

 

Is your dealer mod friendly?

 

Are you going to try to sneak it in under warranty? If not, look for a shop in your area that can do it. Where are you located?

If he has not been pushing 50+ psi...or using drugs, I say it is a Warranty issue! TST or not. Pull it and go get it fixed by a "good" dealer.

well i have been boosting 51psi with just the tst box.I am scared to take it to the dealer they will screw it up.what headstuds is everybody useing arp.and do i need to oring the head or will headstuds do.thanks for the replies everybody.

 

Headstuds and a stock gasket will hold most anything you can throw at it. The key is to do a very thorough job when you do it. I am avoiding O-ringing as long as possible

 

should i take the head to the machine shop and have them check it ,or just slap
a new gasket in and studs and go to town

 

the block and head must be flat as possible or it will not seal

 

Hottapper1, Welcome to the gettin blown (headgasket) club!!!! Have who ever does the headgasket to check the flatness of the head and block deck. My block was off quite a bit around cylinders 5 and 6 where the head gasket usually fails on these. Hours and Hours of sanding and polishing. The head was machined 3 Thou and it was perrrrrfect. Get the thicker gasket for greater than normal protrusion and get some headstuds....A1's from Haisley's or ARP's from anyone. Use ARP lube and go to 122ft-lbs. Of course your valves will all have to be relashed....51psi without studs on the intake...Cylinder or Drive pressure with 12 degrees timing at WOT... 60 to 65psi....what was the TST timing set at ....12 or 18 degrees....
