blown head gaskets

Hey i have an 03 ram diesel, bd twin turbos, 50hp injectors, ARP head studs (torqued to 125 ft/lbs) tst powermax, bd X tuner, and i keep blowing head gaskets.....
I have my x tuner set on tow and usually just adjust my tst as needed but i keep blowing my head gasket, this time it blew out between 2+3 and 5+6.
I am thinking about getting the smarty tuner, any suggestions??

is your head true? maybe step up to the bigger studs and apply more clamping force. reducing your timing might be the easiest option though

I agree timing can cause that problem adjust timing on TST to around 9-12 deg
max I do not know anything about the x tuner but maybe it is also doing some timing as well 2 things that both add timing can be too much.

Orings would be a much better option for a daily driver. Also, Your Timing is probably causing alot of the headache. Do you let your truck get to 190 before throwing the fuel to it? Has your head had any work at all! O-rings and studs will hold in excess of 80lbs no problem!

Ya my head is true, i just put a brand new head on a while back, How do you adjust the timing on the tst?? Its the R37. How would the smarty stack with the tst?? Oh for sure, i let my truck get to normal running temp. before i even think about hitting it with fuel.

try to having the head milled to the very minimal to assure a flat deck. Atleast we use to do that with the gas motors I built, I dont know much of anything about the diesels but im sure this theory is the same.

I don't think its your boxes man or timing, common rails seems to be difficult on keeping lids tight. I just blew my head gasket about a month ago. Mine poped fast too because I had just back only about a week before I blew it again. Luckily for me there are some killer post about torque's and retorque's that I have no idea

Make sure your head if flat before you buy any chip or tuner

If it is scour the head and block with WD-40 and make it shine,
then clean with brake cleaner/degreaser

Retore's really do make a difference. I did my first one the other day hot with about 20 heat cycles in it. Didn't even have to break them to tighten them up a little, marked them and will compare next time when I retorque them again. To build an engine not to pop seems like you have to put about a month of easy-moderate driving just to settle in the head, especially if it's o-ringed.

After about 3 retorque's if you mark your bolts they stay in about the same place, your ready to floor it, bomb it whatever.

Both of your boxes do timing. Are you getting a lot of timing rattle?

When the studs are installed, you need to bring the engine up to operating temperature and then let it cool and then retorque the nuts.

The Smarty will stack fine with your boxes - just remember to use the even (no timing) SW #s on the Smarty if you're adding a lot of timing with your fueling boxes.

I have seen cr blocks That are not true. Make sure it is or have it decked. I would not go over 20psi of boost for first 2 weeks and check your drive pressure. To much timing and high drive pressure will kill any head gasket in no time.
