Blow Off Valve

Has any one heard of putting a blow off valve on there truck? I read some where that a guy done that and I thought it would be pretty neat to do. Having the turbo whistle and then the blow off valve sound.

BD makes a "turbo guard" which is basically a blowoff valve modified to work on a diesel. Very expensive though. AFAIK that is the only true blowoff valve that will work on our trucks because a blowoff valve is actuated by vaccum. When the throttle on a gasser shuts it creates a vaccum and opens the valve, in our trucks there is no vaccum or throttle blade. The closest thing to a blowoff is a pop off valve. I think source auto has those.

The BD Turboguard will give you poor acceleration on a manual since it blows off all of your built up boost between shifts and is a basic pain to install and get dialed in.

There's a reason these things havent caught on in the 3 years they've been out.

Its a cool idea but it just isnt worth all the money, effort, and stress related to the product.

What?? Technically it will give faster acceleration...the boost that has built up in the plumbing will blow of instead of slowing the compressor down. In theory, this will let the compressor keep momentum and build boost faster when you get back on it!

The reason they haven't caught on is because of the price, and the fact that a vast majority of people don't need them or understand how they could benefit. That and the stronger chargers that have been developed don't really require them!

I'm thinking of running them to keep from barking my chargers if I get off the pedal too hard! $4K worth of ball bearing chargers barking is not a sound I want to hear very often!

I have heard they are good for the turbo yet with seeing PLENTY of cummins on stock turbos with LOTS of miles is it really worth the price?

Will BDs turboguard work on an 06? They don't advertise it as that but they do have them listed for other 24-valves

Too bad you dont have a manual because I'd tell you to go install it and report back. It doesnt so much matter on an auto since you dont have to lift off the throttle.

Hey Brad im sure you hear John's opion about the BD Turbo guard on his 03 many times. He's the one that told me it made things worse and all for what a cool pssssssshttt sound when you shift????

P.S its not a simple bolt on part.

I think that a blow off valve would do someone with an auto any good, Kevin...

WOW, I just looked up how expensive it is. Is there very many guys out there running this unit? And does it help with surging too?
