I have a question for you all about block heaters. My 93 Dodge had a block heater that would warm the coolant up to 140 and instantly blow hot air to defrost and heat up the cab. My 03 seems like half the time it does not even work, let alone warm up enough to notice. Is there a different pn for a higher output heater? If not I was thinking of plumbing in a tank heater like we used to do at the Pete dealership I worked at. I want warmth!

 

i wanna say the new ones are like half the power, maybe like 80 degrees. Just enough to assist with starting.

 

In have a 06, dont know about the power but i can tell a huge diff when i plug it in. when mine isnt plugged in it almost sounds like the battery is almost to weak to start but plugged in it fires up, but its also -6 here the warmer it is the less you can probly tell the diff

 

I think the block heaters are 675-750 watts. My old block heater in my 95 Ford was 1000-1200 watts, and man did that sucker eat energy. First month after leaving it plugged in in Alaska I learned about this thing called a Timer after it doubled my energy bill....

 

I keep mine on a timer for about 2 1/2 to 3 hours before I leave for work. The coolant temperature reads 90* and I never let it set there running for more then 20-30 seconds, (wast of #2). It will start blowing luke warm air in 5 minutes maybe, once I start driving. If I forget to plug her in, the coolant temperature will be about 30*.

 

You can buy a smarty that has the 3 cyl warm feature.

 

If I don't put something in front of the radiator, when it is 0 or below, as -6 today, it won't blow warm air for about 10 miles and then it is lukewarm. I had my 92 on a timer for about three hours before I went to work and it was cooking! If I can get a part # of 1k to 1200 watt heater I will install.

 

Not for the 3rd gen. only a second gen thing.
