Re:big HP boxes

From what I have read at WTTD - plan on frying your stock turbo with anything more than a 80 HP box.

I'm leaning more toward the TST, but the Edge has a nicer looking controller.

Re:big HP boxes

Im sticking the controller in the ashtray either way. I wouldnt want to put money on which will hit first but if I had to from what I hear Edge is getting close. I get a more indeterminate feeling talking to TST. Here's to hoping they will both be here soon (picture crabman raising his Redhook ESB in toast).

Re:big HP boxes

Deere Nut,
You will probably not fry your turbo, but with any of the higher HP boxes out now (BullyDog etc) EGT's are way up and must be watched. I should have a hybrid hx35 ready to bolt up in 2-3 weeks, test unit showed +50HP and +56lbs/ft Torque on a stock truck, with just the turbo change. Peak torque was down from 2400rpms to 2200rpms and it feels like there is a lot more midrange power. It has been my experience that after removing the HY9 turbo and installing the hybrid (on 2003-04 and 2001 and up auto's) the useable power increase is worth the cost of the upgrade. Here is an example: You add 100HP (box or injectors and boost fooler) to your 2003, along with aftermarket air intake and exhaust, then tow your 15k fiver. EGT's will be very easy to get to 1200 pre turbo. Swap the hy9 for a Hybrid gain HP and be able to use the HP you added with the first mod. It is just a matter of the HY9 not being useable with an engine making more than 325 HP.

Re:big HP boxes

not trying to start any rumors

just trying to find out if anyone has any enlightening information (factual)

I think both of these boxes are going to be a very exciting change for the cummins and both will have their strong points
and I just cant wait

ive owned both brands of boxes in my 24 valvers and have no complaints on either so NO im not trying to start a brand war
sorry if it apeared that way

last time I talked to Mark at TST (month ago) he said the box was working great but getting a check engine light periodically that really didnt make sense, with no loss of power or defuelling of any kind. So the light really wasnt affecting anything performance wise, just an annoyance

Havent talked to anyone at Edge so I dont know what, if any hold ups they are experiencing

Maybe this random check engine light has to do with the TSB that is causing our check gauges light to flash. I'm sure they probably looked into this already, but who knows.

Re:big HP boxes

The check engine problem is completely gone now on the TST box. The only problem left to take care of is a high RPM stumble that only occurs occasionally, and has been a bear to track down. This is the same stumble that the Bully Dog manifests, and I suspect the exact same problem that Edge has had with their box. TST's been on it for weeks now, and they've lengthened the interval between stumbles, but it still occurs frequently enough that they are not comfortable with customers having the box.

On the race front, my cash is on TST to be first and to have the highest HP available. I've also been trying to convince Mark that he needs a nicer monitor to go along with the box, and I think I'm making some headway. Right now though, it will have many more programming options than Edge is planning. Low end torque enhancement will be a big one, and TST is considering an adjustable max timing feature as well. It may not have the bells and whistles that the Attitude monitor will have, but its going to be more of a hot rodder's box.

That is good news Rod. Thanks for the info. I am leaning more towards the TST anyways. I will pick function over form any day.

Re:big HP boxes

does this stumble have anything to do with the fuel pressure issue or is it something electrical?
