Bed Caps

Hey fellas,

It’s getting to be that time again here in the Pacific Northwest when your bed becomes almost useless - so - it's time to get a cap. I'm really having a hard time figuring out which cap is going to look the best on my rig. The manufacturer's pictures are mostly of older rigs, or Fords or some such. Can you guys please post some pictures of your rigs with their caps? I'd like to know your likes/dislikes on that particular one too. I'm a total cap novice to boot, so any hints on features that I need or things that I should look out for would be much appreciated too.

Thanks,
Walt_Mink

Don't have any pics yet, but I will try to get some uploaded soon. On my 02 I have an ARE fiberglass topper, looks good and is very useful to my with the side opening windows. On my 05 I have just ordered but not yet received a Leer topper (also fiberglass) and also with the side opening windows. I will be able to report back on that one in about a week.
Good luck

I have a Leer cap, and while the fit and finish seem to be good, they talked me into the "slam to shut" rear latch. Bad mistake on my part. Seems everytime the temperature changes, I have to adjust it or it won't shut properly. Also I noticed that all the caps that I've had prior to this one seal better at the rear, but they were the ones with the rear frame and "old school" latches.

Check out www. spacekap.net

a complete fiberglass shell including floor, very practical.

I have the "standard" version, no side windows in mine.

I have an early build 2003. Have had a Leer on it since new. I also have the slam to shut back window and have had no problems with it. The headliner option doesn't do much from a functional standpoint, but it looks good. Paint match is dead on.

I've been hearing that a lot lately - good to have it reinforced - guess I'll avoid them.

I guess what I'm looking for is a plain jane, boring cap that blends into the truck well. Most of the caps that I've found look like someone has a Pontiac strapped to their bed.

Truck cap

I have a Range Rider Apex cap on my truck. I like it and love the look. I believe they are made in B.C.

Check pics in my gallery for my Leer. I'm not so happy w/ the quality either. I get some water leakage. I really like the workman's window. Leer calls it a windoor.
One thing I found out. It's really important how good the installer is with respect to positioning and leakage. My topper doesn't sit as square as it should.

How did you attach that pic to your post?

Let me start by saying I'm no computer expert. The picture is in my "Member Photos" section. I just right-click on the photo and then left-click in the drop down list at "properties" . I go to the new window and highlight the address and cut it (right-click "copy"). Then on the reply to thread page, click on the little yellow "insert image" icon to open that window and "paste" it in. Make sure (IMG) is at both ends...it may do this automatically, I can't remember. and the hit OK. It will be inserted wherever the cursor was. Does this make any sense? I did it and I don't know if it makes any sense.

Here are some pics of my Leer lid... The first one was for a Thule photo shoot for some SEMA banners. The other ones I took with my camera phone!

I love the lid. It fits great and It has keyless entry as well. The only thing I did not get was the built in overhead console with locking door. The only thing I would do differently on mine is have the removable front window option instead of having just a boot in the front with just the Truck window.

Nice truck and top CrashCade. That mag photo is sweet.

I still don't like Leer!

Their quality is sub-par and they do not support their customers or dealers.

I had a top like yours and it was one issue after another. I sold the thing back to the dealer for a loss. And am very happy I did! Yes...it was that many problems!

Like I said before...don't buy a Leer. They look good but quality stinks. Thats a fact...not an opinion.
