Is the BD Super B Single The Right Turbo For Me?

Take a look at the mods in my signature and add the Hot setting from Edge, a FASS 95, and "maybe" an Edge Ez stack and transmission upgrade and call it quits. Would the BD Super B Single provide me a good compliment for these mods?

I was getting all gung-ho for the II Silver 62, but Brandon at II told me I may not be happy with the spooling time since I'm not too heavily modded and suggested the regular Phat 62.

The reason I'm leaning towards BD is because the performance shop I've used has installed a lot and highly recommends it.

I ran it for a while, and liked it. It doesn't always get the respect that it deserves I think, but for moderate power, I feel it is a good choice, and a good tough turbo as well.

It really depends on your fueling. An agressive programmer will outperform any and all boxes all the time and make a bigger turbo perform. This will be at the expense of more smoke until spool. There is no free lunch. If I turn all my electronic fuel off, you wont want to drive my truck. A pig. On the other hand, with the low-end fueling enabled, you absolutely cannot drive in the rain, unless you have a death wish.

The Phat 62 is indeed a 'bigger' turbo FYI, than the Super B. I believe the shaft is also bigger which will give more lag as well. (mass)

Hope this helps.

Thanks CB, that helped a lot.

So, is it fair to say the Super B Single is a "significant" improvement over the stock turbo, especially when you consider my specific mods?

Well, I think you are on the right track either way. It really depends on your tolerance for 'lag'. There are those who might feel 65 degrees is chilly (me), and others who are comfortable with 15 degrees. And I grew up in a cold climate.

I would only suggest to call Dave at High Tech Turbo and speak with him as well. Tell him your mods and expectations and be realistic. Realize too that pretty much anything beyond stock, you will really need to always run some extra fuel to keep the turbo working in its efficiency range. Call HTT.......

[edit]

I think ANY performance turbo recommended is an upgrade over the stock unit which is about maxed at stock fueling levels; even Holset admits this. The turbo can make a very substantial difference, but it must be matched to your setup and expectations. There has been more than one person buy too much turbo and regret it. The opposite can also be true. Fuel.

I had a super b on my 04 an loved it. The II an HT 62 are both great turbos but you can't beat the super b on mildly modded trucks the spoolup of it is almost like stock an lowered my egts about 200*. As for boost it only made low 40s where super phatshaft 62 pushed 50 an HT super stock 62 high 40s.

Silver-62-14 All the Way

I had an sps-62-14 on my 2-nd Gen with Mach-4-150-hp injectors, And a Edge Drag Comp Box, And the Truck Smoked Like a french *****, But this New Silver-62-14 From Industrial Injection on my 05- With the Hot" Edge Juice Runs Flawlass , It spools or Lights up very fast and pools hard

The Super B has a smaller compressor wheel than a stock 06 turbo. We've been modifing the stock turbos and they have been flowing like an hx-40. They will control an 06, on extreme w/ boost fooler, all the way until 135 mph (that when it hit 1,200 pre-turbo).

I really liked my Super B but it is a small turbo 57 14. You should get something else. The stock turbo has a 62 compressor. You would be fine with a 62 14. I'm also still stuck with the darn hx-40 style downpipe

HX35 is 58/14 for comparison.
