No such a critter exists, cannot control pressure on a 48RE.

That is another version of a Shift Enhancer, aka electronic TV cable. A rather expensive one at that.

Unless one is running a programmer that allows reducing the TQ management the same effect can be achieved by advancing the gear on the TTVA motor, if you have one. Since the OP doesn't have one it won't do any good.

On a completely stock truck it really has no useful effect. The trucks that need it have TH which essentially does the same thing. They will help shuttle shift IF it is due to a lazy pressure rise but there are cheaper ways to address that.

So, no 6 oh no are you saying there is nothing out there that can control the pressure on a 48re? I am running a smarty jr with TQ managment. You mention that there are cheaper ways to do this, I am open to hear what they are. Thanks

There are 3 different pressures that play against and off each other in the transmission to get shift points tto happen. Line pressure is set by a relief valve and set screw on the VB. TV pressure is controlled by a valve and setting also on the VB. The gov pressure is set by the ECU via the gov pressure solenoid. These systems are all internal and sealed so there is no "control". All you can do is influence the rate at which they ramp up based on throttle input.

The TV pressure on yours can only be influenced by adjusting the TV cable. The 05+ have an electronically controlled TTVA motor that does what the cable used to do. The TV pressure, which is what the BD box and other shift enhancers try to influence, is run by a cable connected to the bell crank on the APPS.

I know what the details on the box say, and they do say 04.5 but its wrong. The 04.5 trucks do not have a TTVA motor to influence the movement.

Your original post asked what you can do to save your transmission, this box won't help and adjusting the TV cable will really gain you very little. The problem you will have with the added power and reducing the Tq management is the TQ is hitting the direct clutches and 2nd gear band before the stock line pressures ramp high enough to hold well. You end up smoking the 2nd gear band and direct clutch pack. I have pictures of what happens, it ain't pretty.

The ONLY way to help the stock transmission with added power and TQ is up the apply pressures. Even with a shift enhancer, you will STILL tear up the direct clutches and front band at stock line pressures. I know this because I have pictures AND I was running a DTT Shift Enhanser before any power mods to clean up the sloppy OE shifting.

Stock pressures run 50-55 at an idle, 75-80 at shift points, and max out around 160 psi. To compensate for the low end TQ you need 80-85 psi at an idle, 120-130 at shift points and max out around 180-200 psi. You should see 110-120 psi by 1600 rpms as the engine revs or the pressures wil be too light to hold on light throttle shifts with the added power.

The best thing you can do to save your transmission is a towing shift kit. Whne you do that you really need to replace the front servo for the extra pressures and better sealing, the accumlator because the OE piece is plastic, and the band strut plus anchor. All these pieces can be had for around $250 and can be installed without dropping the transmission.

Even on the 05+ trucks, adding power without the above mods is going to have a less tha stellar ending. Irregardless of a shift enhancer. Been there, done that, got the billet parts to prove it.

no 6 oh no, thanks for the information, I will look into the upgrades you mentioned, maybe I should just bite the bullit and upgrade the TC,VB an flex plate.
one last question, it is better to run my Smart JR with the TQ managment off?

Thanks again

At least on 1 or 2, no higher. TQ3 will eat the trans in less than 50k.

6 oh no,

I'm basically in the same boat here, and plan on doing the valve body, bandstrut etc mods. Can you recommend a "one stop" vendor for quality parts here. I've used the Noyoyo kits in the past with Th400 and 700R4...are they still decent?
Also, thinking of doing a filter in the transmission cooling loop, any thoughts?

Thanks Man,

Mike

DTT will sell you all the pieces in a kit to do what you want.

Otherwise, you can buy them all here also. http://www.transmissioncenter.net/dodge.htm
