Barring tool question

If all you want to do is hold the motor you can just put it in gear with the parking brake on. I have the same clutch except my flywheel is different than yours. I have the flywheel spacer and I had to move my starter. The snap-on barring tool works in mine. But I'd bet since you didn't need to move the starter your ring gear is farther away.

With the first DD I ran I used 3 3/8s washers (one per bolt) to shim the starter out but the second clutch I got ( the one in the truck now) was set up slightly differant and though I didnt HAVE to take the shims out there was no reason for me to leave them in so I took em back out.
I know I can use the E brake I just figured there would be less play ie easier on me to torque the bolts back down.

The few diesel techs I've worked with used the alternator to turn the engine over.One insisted on using the barring tool and it always seened to take him longer messing with the darn thing.He always kept it in his toolbox and the other guys said that was fine as they could turn the engine over backwards faster and easier anyway.
