banks has a lot of money going into their products so im sure something works out the reason why people hate banks is because they are overpriced and because their horse power ratings on chips and such are lower to accommodate the stock truck not one thats heavily built.

anyone got a pic of this installed on the truck? thanks

That Banks scoop looks similar to the Volant scoop that they had at the SEMA show last year:

I've considered buying it to go with the powercore intake, but I plan on changing the bumper eventually and it may not work. I just checked the price, $216 on Summit I'll fab my own, thanks.

Whelp here goes,,,

Flame me if you want but I am running the banks cold air system with the super scoop I noticed a definite difference in temps,,, both EGTs and the coolant temps are lower,,, also seems like a quicker throttle response & spool up on the turbo,,,, I am also running the High ram intake and will be doing the intercooler next,,, The stuff is pricy I have to admit,,, so I have been buying a few pieces @ a time ,,,, I dont have the Money to buy a complete system,,, I'm very satisfied with mine so far,,,, My son in Law drove it the other day for the first time since I had finished the upgrade/installs and his exact words were,,,, "Dang what else did you do to that truck??????"

Also once started the decrease in temp is much greater/faster with the banks kit....I cant wait to get the super scoop....makes me NOT want to get twins cause I'll have to get rid of a good product.

For example this morning running 80mph here in wyoming on the interstate temp was 44degrees (overhead reading) and banks temp was readin 58 degrees just last week with same temp same time in the morning same speed "cruise" with AFE temp was 74-78...... "In town" cruising temps are closer to each other but banks is still lower. I am truly a believer in the product. The reading are coming from my "intake" option on my bully dog PMT
I can believe it!!!!!! I dont have the close graduations like his but I can see that my temps are cooler!!!!!!!!
and cool down quicker,,,,

Glad to see this hasn't turned into an instant anti banks thread. I"m interested to see the results of this as well, since in theory the kit should cool things down.

OEM Oops!

So I got ready to do the install, and read the instructions (not a very "manly" thing to do huh?).

I guess I shouldn't have ditched my OEM air box - this Banks system uses the Filter Minder. So I'll go get one tomorrow at the dealership. But I am going to do the install tonight anyhow, and just plug up the hole...I've waited long enough.

Regardless, I can see why the Banks costs more. The design is much better: there is a flex section to aid in fitment and vibration (I can now see why my filter on the AFE fell off) and the box is completely sealed from the engine air - sucks it from the fender. Also, it looks to be MUCH easier to install. The bottom of the AFE box required some socket extensions and arm squishing to get a couple of bolts in. Not the Banks.

Banks spent more time on the engineering than AFE...

What about taking the stock air box and adding the cool blue hose? This would be almost the same for a scoop and then add your favorite air filter in the factory box. Would be cheaper and probably almost as effective.

Mad1,
I say give it a try and provide some feedback. I think using the stock box will matter what type of power the truck is making. I have ran the stock box using cool blue hose to turbo and PSM cold air kit. At the lower power levels this seems to work well. When I started adding power I think I maxed this config out for air needed. I have purchased the Banks and scoop and will be installing them soon. I am hoping to see an improvement in smoke, spool and temps and will provide feedback on what happens. I am putting over 500hp to the tires and am looking for this to provide more and colder air to feed to my turbo. We will see... This is my 1st purchase of Banks gear. I know several friends that have been very happy with the quality of Banks equipment. (exhausts, inter-cooler and airbox)

Cooler air = more dense air = more oxygen in the cylinders

When you have more oxygen, you can supply more fuel to make more power.

Not sure where you live, but where I am one can notice a HUGE difference between power in the summer (30 deg C) and the fall (10 deg C). Much more snappy response in the fall, especially noticable in a turbocharged vehicle!
